    Ok lads

so my clutch is done, 500gbp. looks good. got a squeak from master cylinder as you change gears whilst driving but thats just from lack of lube. Got the master cylinder greased today should do the trick.

car also needs a drive shaft drivers side. (vibrating a bit as you ramp through gears)

now, a problem with the ABS ...

The mechanic triggered all the asb and VSA lights doing the repair, seems a reset of ecu no good.

he says it needs a new wheel sensor from his diagnostic read out.

considering the car was fine when i took it to him I expect him to repair this at his own cost, god forbid if the master module is daamged.

I want him liable for all this as It was grand when I handed it in.

a bit akward as no place open until tuesday and next week i have so much to do..

Does the light come on at start up, extinguish as normal and then come on when the wheels move or does it stay on all the time from start up?
Lubricating a master cylinder to stop a squeak is at best a temporary fix too btw.

lube should last a year so been told, anyway i can get a modified cylinder down the line so not really a concern.

the christmas tree lights all stay on never go out.

going to press for garage to fix this as i had nothing to do with this.

the mechanic said his diagnostic indicated wheel sensor.

he obviously disturbed something doing the clutch.

Re the ABS lights, if he can diagnose a sensor and more specifically which one, then it's unlikely to be the modulator. The wheel sensors do fail over time.

If it IS the modulator (I assume it's a diesel) then it's not a cheap fix. But I don't think a clutch change would have caused this - unless he hit it a whack during the change (pretty hard to do).

However, a sensor could have been knocked out when removing the clutch as the drive shaft and gearbox has to be removed to get the housing out. But again, it could have been on the way out.

yes, its the front drivers side one, incidentally the wheel which was taken off...

he diagnosed that one from his diagnostic tool.

fingers crossed, the drive shaft is up to 300gbp, i am prepared to take a hit on it as its a fine car, tbh at the price i paid i expected to put more money into it.

so far 500gbp and drive shaft.

gear box now is almost F1 smooth... moves between gears great.

    its actually 2.4 petrol.

about the lights, its ok to drive this the way it is? i cant take it back to mechanic until tuesday which is a bummer, i need the car between then.

i know i have no abs etc but it wont do any damage will it.. been told its ok to drive but you wont get the safety stuff which i am aware of.

Lucky you! The 2.4 VSA is pretty solid, haven't heard of any failures in the wild! :)

With the lights on the dash it means that you won't have ABS and/or traction control. You also won't be able to turn on cruise control.

What does this mean in practice? Well, if you drive hard, the wheel will spin. If you need to do an emergency stop, the wheels could lock.

Finally, without cruise, you'll have to stay focused to keep your speed steady:D

You won't "damage" the car by driving. The sensor has failed, that's all.

i turned on cruise today and the green light came on the dash..,

i never actually engaged it was just curious if it worked...

    i will post back tuesday.

With the VSA/ABS fault being reported, you can turn on the cruise control system (i.e. the first green light on the dash), but you won't be able to actually engage the system (the 2nd green light). The sensor fault will need to be fixed first.
