Just thought I'd set this up. What you like about your phone. What you think could be better

    I'll start:

My phone: Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray

    I like:

    - the screen quality
    - the form factor (slim and light, 3.3" screen)
    - performance: generally very responsive
    - interface: the 'bits' SE have added are actually very good, like the way you can scroll through your SMS from the home screen, and also control your music player from there
    - sound quality: music sounds good
    - camera: surprisingly good considering the size of the phone, also front-facing camera too
    - O.S. updates over Wi-Fi/3g - very handy

What I think could be better:

    - touch screen responsiveness: it's not quite as responsive as it might be, fine most of the time, but my old Galaxy S was better
    - internal memory: tiny! micro sd's are cheap anyway so not a major problem, but I don't see why they couldn't put a little more on board!

    Overall rating: 9/10

Upgraded from bog standard LG optimis to desire HD a while back.

    Does everything I want quickly.
camera is pretty good apart from when it focuses it stays focused until youq exit and re open the camera app.
For some reason adobe flash allows me to hear but not see some videos. Probably an easy fix and not really the phones fault.

Apart from that I couldn't be happier.

    Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

    Pros:
    1. Big screen and great resolution
    2. Lovely design
    3. Android 4.0 (love it. massive improvements imo).
    4. No touchwiz/sense/etc., just "proper" ICS.
    5. Easy to root
    6. Camera's seem good (though I'm not a photo person)
    7. Fast. Damn fast. (coming from a HTC Desire I really noticed this)
    8. On-screen "soft" buttons. I have mine customised, which is excellent.
    9. Good weight
    10. Haven't had any problem with sensors, wifi, gps, etc.
    11. NFC reader is pretty cool. Not utilized in the real world much yet but you can buy and program your own tags. For lolz.

    Cons:
    1. It doesn't feel that robust. More solid than the SGII, I think, but nothing as good as a HTC.
    2. Is it too big? I love that the screen is so big and clear, but there are times it gets just a bit hard to handle. It's a tough call.

    9/10.

    Really great phone.

    HTC Desire S

    pro:
once rid of sense, this phone is next to perfect for me. the size is spot on, i won't go bigger until i'm forced to. it is still one of the nicest HTC/androids to look at as well as it being rock solid in the hand. loads of internal memory (most annoying negative from the "old" desire). this could go on for a while. . .

    con:
wifi receiver strength could be a bit better. i have it a year and the geek in me will always be looking at newer toys. some of the extremities are starting to look a bit worn, especially around the headphone socket i.e. a mix of silver and black where it once was solely black.

    8/10

    Desire HD.

Can't honestly fault it in any serious way except I would love more battery life. I'm due an upgrade soon but probably won't even change it unless something of a similar model comes out with improved battery life.

HTC Sensation rooted S Off and running ICS 4.0.3 and Sense 3.6.

    9/10 *****

Phone is overclocked to 1.8ghz dual core and runs like a dream.

I have to say it's the best phone I have ever had, and I have had a lot of phones.

Pro: Very fast, slick interface, great design and manufacture (it's nice and weighty)
    Android
    Great camera
    Great Screen
    Easy to customise.

Cons: Occasionally, there's a bit of touch screen lag, and I mean once in a blue moon, but it's slightly irritating.

I'm not 100% behind ICS at the moment as a fair few games lack compatability.

    Desire HD
    S-off and ENG-off
revolution ROM (2.3.5) with custom no-sense++ script and a 1.8Ghz overclock.

    god that's a mouthful.

    pros:
4.3" screen. I'll never go back to using a small screen again.
completely customized Rom. gotta love the Dev support for HTC phones.
the weight. the uni aluminium body, its just so rigid. I've dropped it a good number of times onto horrible surfaces, and I've only a few marks on the corners. comparable to my Nokia 3310 ;)

    cons:
I get less than a full day battery life, but I'm on the phone the entire time, so its not too bad. using a replacement 1600maH battery.
the LCD screen isn't as colourful as some of the newer amoled screens.
the amp cant properly drive my Sennheiser HD448 headphones, but I doubt any phone can.

overall, its a 9/10. with the massive overclock on it, I'm not finding myself in a situation where I'd need a dual core or anything. my next upgrade will have go be a very similar design HTC with a HD amoled screen, and a 2 day battery life. until that comes, I'm happy with this :-)

Never considered this, just plugged my DT990 Pro's into my Xperia S. They're 2x250Ohm per channel studio cans but its holding up pretty well. Using gMusic so not really a proper test but I'll push some 320's over in a sec to see.

    Desire S. 9/10

    Pro's:
    size, display, fast enough, stuff

    Con's:
    None to speak of

Its the perfect size for me, cos I also have a transformer prime. I'm a HTC fanboy, so considering a One S next, although it might be a little big for my needs... BTW I'm on stock Sense, which I like.

    Motorola Atrix 4G. 7/10

    Pro's:
    Was cheap
    Dual core CPU
    Custom ROMs available
    Good screen resolution
    Webtop!
    HDMI mirroring

    Con's:
    a bit fat/bulky
    No ICS
    Screen isn't OLED
Why do smartphone batteries only last a day or two?

    Samsung galaxy note

    Pros

    Fast processor
    HD screen
    Screen size
    Fast
    Quick boot up

    Cons

Get a lot of slagging about the size, good talking point though
    Still on gb

Galaxy S2 9/10, love everything bar the sound quality, not great considering the rest of the phone, and the battery life, but that is an issue with all smartphones not just this one.

Sony Ericsson Walkman Live 8/10 Great little phone actually, my wife is delighted with it, downside is smallish, but perfectly acceptable screen. Reviews say its a poor screen but I think its grand. Nippy little 1ghz processor and the stereo speakers are good enough. Very reasonably priced for what it is. Headphones are garbage though. And its getting ICS in June which is pretty good for a budget phone.

Maybe her opinion of this phone is partly coloured because of what she used to have:

Vodafone Smart (Huawei u8160) 3/10 unresponsive, poor screen, generally poor, positives? Its an android, just not a very good one, battery life is actually fairly good on this, but maybe because we avoided doing anything with it because it was so painful.

SE xperia play, rooted, unlocked & overclocked to 1.6Ghz.

Pros Android, emulators, great for a bit of timekilling and does everything else you would expect of android.

Cons, poor camera, could be brighter/sharper and 380mb rom really stifles your ability to DL games/ apps

    Galaxy Nexus 9/10 for me:

    Pros:
Screen is amazing, excellent black levels.
Form factor is excellent for such a large phone; thin on top and tapers to fatter at base.
Pure Android ICS experience is beautiful, minimal and functional.
    Very fast, especially on 4.0.4
Camera is good (4.0.4 has fixed camera focus issues) with no lag
Best browser on smartphone with quick touch controls.

    Cons:
Lack of official accessories (docks, car kit).
May be too big for some users.

HTC HD2 Running ICS. (Originally built for Windows Mobile )

    Pros:
    • Brilliant Screen
    • Solid Build Quality
    • Overclocked to 1.13 ghz, sd boost, deodexed, zipaligned.
    • Nice Camera
    • Runs ICS Well

    Cons:
    • No HWA so no flash, camcorder
    • Some lags
    • Snapdragon likes to overheat

Was the NFC reader available out of the box or did you have to do some updating?
    What operator?

Yeah, it's available out of the box. I use the NFC Task Launcher app to read+write tags.

I got my phone sim-free so no operator, but I don't think that'd make a difference.
