hi im thinking of going looking at this car later, is there any things that i should look at in particular?
is this timing belt or chain?
what would be a good price for it?
i know the headgasket can give trouble in some bmw's so if this was to go next week would i be covered as its from a dealer or can he just say sold as seen?

    It's a 500 quid car. Don't expect too much.

It's taxed and tested, test drive it. But as I said for the €500 don't expect much. They are timing chain and yes the heads give trouble. There is no mention of mileage.

Surely you'd be better off spending a few more hundred euro and getting one that isn't green and has alloys at least?

At a guess I reckon that's a money pit right there. If your spending 500 quid on a runaround, look for something like a fiesta, punto etc. BMW's regardless of year are expensive to maintain / fix.

I'd doubt there'd be any comeback if the headgasket went, it would cost close to that in parts and labour to replace it. Looking at the pics, there seems to be a nasty ding on the rear passenger door.

If you do go look at it, just make sure it's not overheating, there's no nasty noises from the engine bay and that it stops safely and in a straight line! If there's knocks from the suspension, you're looking at further expense.

It's most likely going to be a fixer-upper at that money, if you can afford the little extra you should be able to get into something a bit more desirable and a bit tidier - the e36's are going for pennies now so it's a buyers market.

    These look alot tidier:

The only thing to note is that the NCT is either nearly up or already expired on them. Not a big shock really on a sub €1000 car.

The colour and the wheels would be the last thing on my mind when buying a €500 car.

Guess we differ there. The market for e36 now supports cars at that price point and slightly above it. I would prefer to buy something that's decent and I enjoy looking at if I was spending 5-800 Euro. Just cause the purse strings don't stretch far doesn't mean you can't aim high.

Aiming high at that end of the market means getting a mechanically sound car that doesn't need money spent on it. Such cars do exist, but it takes time to find them. Start filtering by colour and wheels and you need to compromise on either the car, the budget, or the time you spend looking for it. Even narrowing it down to an E36 is a step too far at €500, IMO.

i like the silver one rang her there and he didn't have his phone on. i only want the car for slab diffing so alloys and colour don't matter i only want i to last to the end of the summer anything longer is a bonus.

So you want if for diffin? And thought if the head gasket went the dealer would replace it? :pac:

I'd doubt you will get any sort of warranty on a €500 car, the dealer would stand to make no profit from it.

Well, it's gonna get destroyed anyway, might as well take the green one, why wreck a good one?

Ah nothing wrong with a bit of smoking. Better than banger racing, that sport must have destroyed thousands of classic cars since the 70's.
