Turbo went in 2006 VW Passat

The turbo failed in my VW Passat. There is 215k km on the clock. Other than a broken coolant pipe it has given me no grief. Should I repair and sell it on or repair and drive it into the ground? Local VW dealer will give me 4k for it as is. Just asking "what would you do?".

    Cheers in advance.

I'd be tempted to take the €4000 unless there was another side to that deal, ie you buying some overpriced yoke off them too :)

Yes should have mentioned that. The 4k is the trade in value against another car!

Fix it. Get a reconditioned unit.

Jesus, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That's fine mileage and unless she starts causing you problems then I'd see no need in disposing of it tbh....

:) thanks, I was just looking for some reassurance.... I think the mileage is fine too. The cost of repairing it is €1300 including labour and vat.

Will eventually be upgrading to a 7 seater... But later this year. Don't have the means to do it right now.

    €1300 ?

You're not getting the turbo done in a VW garage, are you?

No I'm using my go to guy. That quote is from a vw garage though. My guy hasn't sent me a price yet. Getting that this morning. Out of curiosity what should I be expected to pay?

I've no idea to be honest but I'd be dubious over €500 - €600

Eh, Few lads in the know around here. I'd suggest speaking to Nissan Doctor or George Dalton tbh to get a clearer idea but €1300 sounds like a hooge price tag to me !

For supply and fitting of a recon turbo would be around €900-950 inc VAT. That would be a turbo from a decent recon outfit rather than a €350 paperweight from some chancer off Donedeal.

Seems almost reasonable for a main dealer tbh, I would have thought they'd have charged a fair bit more.
