    Hi guys
Has anybody ever been for a custom fit at Birr golf shop ?
Would you recommend them for an iron fit or not.
Was told on phone €125 for hour and a half fit on irons however if I were to buy off them the €125 would not be taken off the price of the irons.
Is this the norm I have never been fitted before and any feedback is appreciated.

Wow I'm in Ennis and a local pro offered to fit me for €50 half hour without purchase. Free with purchase.

That's crazy pricing especially when the cost is not deducted from any subsequent purchase, look further afield and you'll get iron fitting for €30-€50 and the cost will be deducted for a subsequent iron set purchase

I got fitted for a driver last year in Birr. It was 100 euro for the hour and this was taken off as I bought the driver there. Found it quite good to be honest, but I've heard so much (good) about Fore Golf, I'd probably go there next time.

They use Trackman in Birr which i am told is 30k worth of kit, they can hardly give that kind of technology and over an hour of a pro's time free of charge, or to fit someone and have them go off and order the stuff online after that (they give the data and recommendations from the session to take away). Fore don't deduct the cost of the fitting, and they aren't exactly cheap either. That is because the margin on golf equipment is fairly poor without having to factor in a full free custom fit into the sales process as well.Anyone charging e50 for a custom fit won't be offering a comprehensive job and it definitely won't be utilizing the industry gold standard in technology.

I've bought clubs there on a couple of occassions, without getting custom fitted by them. Thought it was great that you could try the clubs out on their range before buying.

Bought my current irons from them after trying them out there. Recently went to Foregolf for a fitting and was told they were a great match and didn't need a change.

I've been on the range there while somebody was being custom fitted and they did seem to be trying lots of options and taking their time about it. Seemed very similar to the fitting session I went through with Foregolf.

In my view what the charge for custom fitting is reasonable, so it comes down to whether or not you'll benefit from it. If you're a good golfer and play alot, plan on buing a full set anyway and are going to use the clubs paying the extra €125 is well worthwhile.

Actually just remembered I bought my 3 wood, a Taylor made burner superfast in birr last September based on what I thought on the range. (Not custom fit) Subesquently paid €140 to reshaft it after the session in Foregolf. Club is much more consistent wih the new shaft. The cost of reshafting it would have paid for the fitting (almost).

Reviving an old thread, does anyone know if Birr take a trade in of your old clubs when getting fitted for a new set?

I buy clubs regularly in Birr Golf Shop. I would highly recommend it as a great place to try out clubs and then buy them. For any serious golfer I would advise against buying clubs off the shelf. It's amazing the value of one fitting can do for your confidence. I know €125 is a lot in addition to the value of the clubs but it's worth it to know that the clubs you buy are the right fit for your game. Golf technology has moved on so much in the last few years even that even the golfers of modest ability can improve their game by identifying the best equipment for themselves.
