Anyone any idea what my car might be worth?

Basically, I am trawling through the internet at the moment in the hope of upgrading my car to a newer year with less mileage. I am looking at cars that appear to be within my price bracket. I don't have a lot to play around with. I want to go to a few garages next week when I get time but I don't want to go if I am wasting my time either and my own car is worth nothing or very little.
So has anyone any clue, just ballpark (within 500-1000 Euro) how much my car might be worth please?
It's a 2004 basic model 5 door Mark V VW Golf. It has alloy wheels. The mileage is high - 121,500 miles. But it has been just NCT'd for another 2 years.
    Thanks in advance.

If petrol, about 2.5- 3k on a trade in I'd say. A lot of head shaking with it.

If Diesel, probably something that would sell very easily. 1k more in trade in maybe.

    Private prices,

    €4k Petrol
    €4.5k Diesel

Golfs command stupid money compared to say an Astra/Focus, Best bet is spend €250 on a set of AMG Reps and tint the windows.. Guaranteed to sell then. :)

The trade-in value will vary from garage to garage, depending on what you are trading it in against and how much the garage think they can sell your car on for. The important figure you need to focus on is how much money the garage want with your old car for the new one. The other figures can be fudged to make it look like you are getting a great deal.

The good news is that Golfs sell for silly money, even a bog standard, high mileage one can sell for alot these days as people like them.

hardly that stupid though. considering you could buy a focus for less than 2000

If you can buy an equally as good (IMO better) and very car for half the money it is stupid.

Thanks everyone. Well €2.5k was the minimum I would have needed to trade up. It's a petrol car. Thanks for all the input-I'm going to go car shopping next week. Hopefully get a 2007 model with around 50k mileage for an extra €2k on top of my own-dont mind what type of car as long as it fits two kid's car seats, a buggy and is reliable! Thanks again.
