    Hi All,

Just looking for some feedback on the xtrails - thinking of getting one, budget will allow around an 03/04. Bit put off by the 2.2 diesel tax but if its a lot more economical than the 2.0 petrol the extra money may balance out.
Mileage would be about 15K per year for me, with some of it towing a caravan, hence the larger motor.

Anyone got either the petrol or diesel and care to comment, how is it for towing? What sort of mpg are you getting?

Read some reports that the earlier di diesel is more reliable than the later dci - any idea how i know which one it is?

Any alternatives around the €4 to €5k mark that i might consider?

    thanks all
    oink

The 2.2 dCi is well known for blowing turbos, happened a few people at work here with me. The 2.0 litre petrol is probably the safer bet but you should test drive an X-Trail first, imo they are terrible to drive.

A 1.8 litre petrol Rav4 or a 2.0 litre Honda CRV might be a better choice.

I used to have a 03 xtrail 2.0 auto with leather, cruise control etc,
it was a great car to drive and lots of poke and very spacious....but
when you put down the right shoe you could see the petrol needle drop,
probably only done 27 mpg if i was lucky...must say this was the only reason i got rid of it.....
