The auld fella was away for a week there last week, asked me to get his car (06 Chrysler 300C) serviced in my regular garage where i get alot of work done.

So it went in for a service they changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, wiperblades, fuel filter, check the lights and levels.

Bill came to €270.... a bit strong but i only ever get work done on white goods (Toyota's)

The bill broke down like this 130 (9.6l) for the oil 70 for the filters and wiper blades, and another 70 for labour.. Needless to say he's gonna need another holiday to get over the bill and isnt happy.

Think its too much?? having only ever gotten services from the garage on Skoda's and Toyota's for a ton it was equally a shock to me as it was to him.

That's insane. Does the Chrysler engine get lubricated with the tears of vestigal virgins or something?

Seems about Right, if the used the correct oil and proper parts.

What the hell is with the oil quantity, the 2.7l takes 4.7 litres and even the 5.7l V8 only takes 6.6 litres?

Assuming it was high grade oil, the filters/wipers/labour isn't far off the mark.

What kind of mpg does it get when you borrow it?

IIRC it was Castrol 5W30 (could be wrong) and i did see him plant two and a bit containers of oil in it.

Honestly it was something i could of done myself but never worked on such a car before and didnt want to chance it fecking it up, considering my current yoke could of been bought for the price of the service and have €20 left over :pac:

Well assuming you have the 2.7l V6, he charged you 100% too much for oil.

Ahhh, that makes a lot more sense. Should have copped it from the viscosity. The overall price sounds reasonable enough to me.

Though it was a nice car, wondering what it would do in real world driving.

Really?? I know we're not exactly talking about a service for a Toyota Corolla here, but even to me i think its on the high side, that said i've never brought a car of its like to be serviced before.

A standard service doesn't include wiper blades or a fuel filter, you'd be charged for them ontop of a €100 service also.

And 10 odd litres of Castrol will cost you €130 no problem if you were to buy it from a factors. €70 for an hours work on a unique car is about right also.

Fair enough i guess, how much would a service be on your 7er?

The 3.0crdi was the only engine sold in Ireland AFAIK.

I see nothing wrong with that price TBH.

They seem to have used the correct amount and grade a good quality oil, the wipers on those are the 'aeroblade' type so a good few quid more the basic wipers.

Even the spurious filters etc for that car are more expensive then they are for more common cars.

If he thinks thats expensive, he'd better hope he never needs to buy anything from Chrysler:o

Not clue, was quoted €1200 for an inspection 2 before. Did it myself for €400.

Standard service would be about the same as that 300C in an independent.

Just for comparison reasons, what used his normal service place charge?

I don't think €270 is that much out of the way given the amount of oil required, especially when they used Castrol from retail containers and not shtuff from a barrel :)

    That engine takes 8.5 litres.

As Castrol synthetic 5W40 can be €13-15 litre from 4L bottles , thats around the €120 mark for that engine!

Plus the filters/wipers/labour etc, you were not screwed.

I dont think thats any more than average costs on a modern vehicle. It actually seems totally normal.

For expensive, try this on for size: My father paid EUR1360 for a Mazda CX7 service which included Brake Discs and Pads plus the above stuff you mentioned. Labour was like EUR600. In Joe Duffy Mazda... what do you expect hmm?
