I have just discovered I am owed emergency tax by a job I had in 2009. Is it impossible for me to reclaim this tax since I am now currently employed?

I should add I no longer work at the job for which I am owed the tax. Thanks.

No just call the tax office and tell them you want a p21 balancing statement for 2009. They will do it up and if you are due a refund they will send you the p21 stating if you are due it or not then if you are you will get a cheque or it will be lodged to your account :). As for the employer it was up to you to give them in a p45 and thats why you were on emergency tax. If you didn't have a p45 from last employer you should have gotten their (the employer from 2009) employers registration number and called the tax office with it who in turn would have issued you and them a tax credit cert.

Just login to your online account and request a review of 2009. You can request reviews back over the last 4 years. Any refund due will issue automatically. Make sure to input your bank detail to get any refund to your bank account. Also tick the receive correspondence electronically box so the P21 will come as a PDF to the online account.
