Just wondering if people recommend blanking out your reg in pics of your car when selling?

Also, anyone have any comments on my ad?!

    Thanks!

Better safe than sorry. If someone wants to clone a car they will choose the first number plate that shows up. If its a popular car you can give the plate to anyone who calls so they can check insurance prices.

The advert looks sharp. I assume theres no knocks or problems with it?

Just had a look.Quick thing I noticed, when I saw the title i read it as a 04 car because of the way that you have 4 door written

Don't bother blanking out the reg. If you are worried about cloning, do you drive around with a tea towel covering your reg? If someone wants to clone your reg, they will. They could call for a test drive and take note of the reg in front of you if they were deperate enough. The pics you have with the reg atm is fine.

Change the 04 DR to 4 Door or leave it out completely. It does give an impression that it's an 04 car. You have repeated so many items in the description a few times as well as putting in some stuff that really doesn't need to be put in. Sat nav, leather upholstery, cruise control and parking sensors mentioned a few times. I'm not sure I ever met anyone who was put off buying a car because upon inspection they found it had no rear headrests. :D

Can I ask is it necessary for you to mention it's on Irish plates? Was it an import? It may make some people think it's an import. Nice pics.

I would remove any reference to it being a 4 door from the title and include the fact it has a NAV unit, bigger selling point. I don't think this model Accord ever came in a coupe? So that shouldn't be an issue for buyers.

And the internet is the best way to do that. Its much easier to go on a car site and enter the exact cars details that they want and clone a plate. If he happens to come for a test drive well at least you havent made it easy for him.(bearing in mind the internet is the easy option and he wont turn up for a test drive or go around like a lala looking for random cars on the road).

you can see the reg in one of the pics

In the US they put the VIN in the advert yet we still keep looking over our shoulders on something as public as the Reg plate. If you dont put it in, it looks suspicious and adds a layer of annoyance to a potential buyer.

Was looking at learner driver cars last week and some dealers like to hide the plates and not mention the year of the car in the advert. Those adverts were not called but legitimate (ie real cars with reg plates) private sellers were.

Id Agree there, when i see plates blanked out i just assume there is something to hide ( i know this mostly might not be the case) just is what catches me when i see it.

Good add, the repeating wouldn't bother me, you have the car good and clean. It looks identical to a Accord sport that i was looking at on done deal about 6 months ago, it was an import (this isnt a negative for me) and when you mentioned irish plates i would automatically assume its an import. That will be a sell for some people and make others weary. Id take it out alltogether, its obviously on irish plates you can see them. You can talk to a prespective buyer about it being an import or not when you speak with them.

You can see the four doors in four of the seven photos so I can't really see the point in putting '04DR' in the header, surely '2008' is more appropriate for the header?

ABS, A/C, driver's airbag, adjustable steering wheel, CD player, electric windows, immobiliser.... they were standard in my 1996 Fiat Bravo 1.4SX. Leave them out.

Do you need to mention alloy wheels when you can see them in the photos? Do you need to mention climate control and air conditioning? Is there a model of car with 'multiple airbags' that doesn't also have a 'driver's airbag'?

My point about the specs. is that listing too many of them means that the important (optional extra) ones get lost in the fog, I'd only list the ones that cost extra or that are not usually standard in cars in that class.

Don't take photos in direct sunshine, wait for even cloud cover which means no glare and no shadows.

Metallic Silver? Looks like metallic grey to me.

Cheers for the input! Have removed some of the repetition...most of which was put in by ticking the features boxes on carzone...!!

    Now to sell it! :)

    Reg removed at Op's request

For anyone who still thinks its okay to leave in your reg, here's an example you can learn from:

Scaremonger, he has no evidence that was even anything to do with it at all.

Look, if you want to sell a car, put the Reg In. If you want to reduce but not eliminate the slim chance someone (who has the near exact same car as you) wants to clone your Reg plate but dont mind dramatically reducing your sales chances, by all means block the Reg plate.

Its stupid I have to point out the obvious, but if someone wants to clone a car and is using forsale sites to farm a mark, comes across a ringer for their car with the Reg blocked, all they have to do is pick up the phone and ask for the Reg number. If you dont give it out over the phone, you will never sell the car. If you do, you may as well have put it in the photo (and not discouraged the legitimate car buyers).

Either live in fear or man up, this is an absolutely ridiculous mindset to get stuck in.

They wouldn't bother phoning up because that's evidance that can be used when the cloned car is found. Why would they when they can just move on to the next ad who neglected to blank out their plates.

If you're worried about putting off buyers then blank the numbers at the end only.

Personally I use the reg to do a quick Cartell check on the car before I go in and buy it.
I have to laugh at some eejits though who blank out the reg plate but then show us the discs with the reg still showing.

    This too shall pass.

Right, think about that. Is the guy you posted the link to now going through all the calls he had with the Gardai to find out the car cloner? Dont be absurd, not only would this be a pointless endevour and impossible to prove, if the cloner wanted to cover tracks they would use a blocked number or pre-paid phone anyone.

I dont know how partially obscuring numbers in any way is a pro-buyer move.. do you even know why we are saying its offputting?
