    Hey everyone,

I'm looking to get healthier and fitter and to make the most of the long evenings so I'm interested in getting a bicycle.

Does anyone know where in Cork is the best place to get one (either rent or buy ... have not decided yet).

    Thanks in advance!

Barbers I think is good. I only cycle for fun or to go into town though, not a competition cyclist.

You'd get a decent road bike 2nd hand on donedeal for a few hundred, so many people availed of the cycle to work scheme and got a bike worth a grand and used them very little :)

I wouldn't spend anymore than a few hundred as you may not get the value out of it, if you really enjoy cycling you can always trade up in the future...

You'll also get a new bike for a few hundred too of course :)

The cycling forum may be worth a peak.

Happy to recommend Kilgrews on Kyle Street, just off Cornmarket Street/North Main Street. Got good advice, great range and good service. Don't forget the Cycle to Work scheme if you qualify - you save a load of money.

If you are interested in renting to just try it - there is a place on Barrack Street where you can rent for a week to see if you like etc. can't remember the name.

It's a great way to get fit and just clear the head.

I have a mountain bike in the garage that you can have FOC, the gears need sorting, but it should be a cheap fix.
    I'm in Cork city south.

That used to be the place I always went but it's gone now, they've moved to Carrigaline I think. I've gone to Kilgrews (mentioned earlier) since & found them fine to deal with.

I've always been fond of cycle scene at the bottom of blarney street. They also have a bike rental scheme, although I've never availed of it myself.

Barbers in Ballyphehane or the new place in the retail park next to Harvey Norman, maybe called The Edge. next to Smyths toys off the magic roundabout.

The Edge would not be the place for a beginner to pick up a cycle - it's a specialist shop for high end bikes.

I won't be in Cork this weekend but perhaps I could collect it on Monday evening? I have no problem giving you something for it of course :)

Oh and can you send me your address / general area in a PM so that I can find out the best way of transporting it :)

It's just off Barrack St, turn right up the small alley next to Nancy Spain's bar/off license. It's in on the left about 20 metres up.
