Anyone know off hand, what it might cost to do a timing belt and a clutch on an 03 galaxy with VW engine. It would be a 1.9 TDI diesel. Individually and replaced together if it would be cheaper.

Just a rough ball park figure will be fine.

    Thanks all.

€350 for timing belt kit and water pump, €900 approx for clutch, dual mass flywheel and concentric slave cylinder. There would be no real saving to be had by doing both together.

Just a stupid question, but is that fitted? and what are the intervals? Seems to be differing opinions online.

    Those would be fitted prices.
The interval for the timing belt is every 4 years. Clutches don't have an interval.

They are also two completely unrelated jobs so no saving by having them done at the same time.

I went to manchester last week to collect one I bought off ebay. On the test drive there was a BANG and thud thud thud, grind grind grind and it was immobilised. Drive shaft went. Flew home annoyed. But I know they are prone to it so I should be thankful it went before I paid for it.

Yesterday seller rang me offering me the car with new drive shafts fitted - 300 quid he claims, for 100 quid off the agreed price.

£2895 cash. 96k on the clock. Very clean, HPI clear. New Exhaust. Clutch is fine.

Not much paperwork, previous owner never passed it onto current owner.

Thinking about it, thinking very hard....

Looking for repair costs if the worst scenerio it needs to be done.

Ask him for pictures of the new shafts fitted, to make sure they aren't just second hand.

If they are new then its the same prospect as it was before....although I would try to negotiate for more off the price due to the extra travel expenses you have incurred.
