Who do I have to get in touch with to find out the date of first registration of a car?

I had to reply for a replacement log book (brown type) and the bare minimum of info was filled in. I've tried NCTS and a friend checked the SIMI data check website but nothing. Does anyone have a phone number for the relevant department in the DOE, in Shannon?

Do you have your nct cert, or disc?

Shannon car tax office details is here : Linky

But... it says on that page
If your query relates to First Registration of Vehicles or importing of Vehicles please note that these issues are dealt with by the Revenue Commissioners (external link)

I'm just wondering if you can get a cheap €6 vehicle report from http://mywheels.ie.
That might have it on it.

Take a look at your NCT disc.
Next due date is most likely the anniversary of first registration date, or possibly just a day before that.

So f.e. if you NCT disc is valid until 17 May 2012, and car is 04 reg, then it means that most likely your first registration date is 18th May 2004 or 17th May 2004.

Thats correct but in this case the op has a old brown book which would mean its vintage.
Afaik they are exempt from nct.

    Allright.
I didn't know what "brown logbook" meant.

It's a 1991 so don't think it's exempt from the test yet. I'm on the case, hopefully have it sorted tomorrow.

The brown books were in use up until 1993 and the last I heard they had to be tested yearly. Any replacement brown book I got came from the local council, if you go back to them they should look up the records and fill it in.
