Supervised Bicycle Parking

Is anybody else still surprised that there is no (truly) secure bicycle parking in Dublin City Centre?

I've been asking around and looking online and everything I find refers back to Drury Street car park where there is dedicated bicycle parking. Fair enough its off the street but I'd still be apprehensive about leaving my bike in there for the day. By no means is my bike top of the range but it cost enough that I don't want it damaged or parts taken.

Does anyone think a few euro would be a small price to pay to leave your bike somewhere for the day if it was supervised the whole time?

Does anyone know of anywhere like this in Dublin?

    Cheers

I leave a good bike in drury st every day. And some nights. Never any problem. Have never noticed any bikes having been interfered with. Two hefty locks plus a cable, plus staff within shouting distance, not to mention all the foot traffic as people lidl up or collect bikes, not to mention cctv. Great facility.

I can't say I've heard of anything like this around town. I use Drury St. all the time but hate the bike racks, just can't seem to get the bike comfortable in them.
I'm guessing you'd have to charge €3.00 a day or more just to break even. That's €675pa for parking 45 weeks out of the year!

That seems like a lot when shopkeepers with time and energy to lavish on customers can't seem to get them to buy good U-locks for €90 and no matter how supervised it was I'd still want to lock my bike!
Insurance (if available) might even be less than that and could cover your bike from being nicked from outside the pub too.

The Drury Street model is probably the only one that likely to work. With the purchase and running cost of bikes being so low it's hard to see any worthwhile parking service being provided without a subsidy.

What about a truly massive pavement bike park on Kildare St/Molesworth St being watched over by the Gardaí protecting the Government offices? Bound to be other places where the cops are standing around all day waiting for an assassination attempt that will probably never take place. Killing two birds with one stone (the Gardaí, not the assassins!).

Serious question. Have any bikes actually been stolen from Drury Street since it opened?

haven't heard of any bikes being stolen but know a couple of people who had a bit of damage done. don't think it was malicious or anything, just people not taking that much care when locking up their owns bikes

Bike insurance tbh, half the advantage is parking where you are going, not halfway across the city
