Evan Bourne's Foot Injury Is Career Threatening

Evan Bourne sustained a midfoot fracture dislocation in an undisclosed accident last week as his foot was broken in four spots and dislocated in five. According to the official website of Silverman Ankle & Foot Practice, his injury, also known as a LisFranc fracture dislocation, is a career threatening injury to athletes, even when treated well.

The website says, "It is unknown whether or not Bourne will return to wrestling after this injury but one thing is certain – it's going to be a long road to recovery."

Jay's POV : HOLY **** how did he manage to do that? LisFranc fractures mean you broke/displaced your metatarsals (long bones in foot that connect your ankle to your toes). It all depends on how well the bones are realigned but oh crap, he'll likely get arthritis and a whopper amount of pain in his foot for the rest of his life - He'll be out at least a year, maybe permanently, especially since he was a high flyer. Hopefully as an athlete it'll heal easier. He might end up getting fusion surgery, but at this point he'll be reminding me on Brian Pillman; who OD'ed on painpills after his ankle surgery. :( Absolutely HORRIBLE news.

Heard he was in a car accident. Terrible news. Always liked the lad. From winning his first major championship to being suspended twice for smoking weed to this. Some year he has had.

My god, that's AWFUL!!! I feel so sorry for him, such a young talent. Even with the surgery and recovery, I'm guessing it would be easier for him to damage the foot in the future.

Apparently this injury is common in horse riders when they're thrown forward off the horse; because the stirrup is over the metatarsals and the force of the throw.....snap. *shudder*

I really hope we see Evan in the ring again.

Still think he hit himself with a hammer to avoid another suspension.

Its not career threatening, he can always just cut his foot off...

Dr Powell there with the diagnosis, he's in safe hands.

Might have to go back to his mailbox business. I feel for the guy, with the kind of style he wrestles an injury like this doesn't look too good at all.

:o My apologies, as soon as I see the POV it's usually only one man springs to mind.

ha thanks! I generally don't like to bring up the Doctor thing but when medical articles pop up, i hope people are a little interested in hearing about it :o

    Evan's Twitter:
followed-up with the surgeon today. X-rays show every bone is back in it's proper place. Recovery won't be fast but I'll heal & fly again!

Hope he makes a full and speedy recovery but I honestly can't say that I've missed him from Raw.

I hope he has that legendary wrestler's tolerance for pain because generally there's substantial arthritis and constant pain assoc with fractures of this kind. Being a high flyer isn't great either. Really hope he makes a full recovery.

Evan probably doesn't know if he can tolerate pain, normaly too high to notice pain at all.

all jokes aside, I hope he gets better real soon.

No knowledge of this type of injury but especially in America doctors dont want to be sued so they issue the stop wrestling ultimatum or give inflated recovery times. Could be less serious than most think.

That's quite true. Although from my own studies in the medico-legal area, you'd be interested to know that Ireland has one of the highest instances of litigation against medical professionals in the world.
