For anyone who may be interested Breaking Bad is starting on TG4 on Thursday the 19th April @11pm.
I would assume it's starting at series 1.

Almost definitely. They showed The Wire, Curb your Enthusiasm, True Blood etc in English amongst others so it's unlikely that they are going to dub Breaking Bad.
If I see adverts for something like "Bristé go Doná" then I'll consider myself corrected. :pac:

I know many will be happy about this, but I started watching it and gave up at Episode 5 of Series 1. Just wasn't doing it for me, sorry.

Fair play to tg4. I keep telling people it's the best station we have. This proves it. I'm still baffled rte haven't bought it yet. They bought Pan am (I watched that too) when they weren't even sure it would get a second season. Yet BB has had four seasons and they're still sitting on their hands.

Great news! I've watched up to halfway through the 3rd series but couldn't find the next few episodes anywhere, looking forward to rewatching from series 1. Thanks for the post!

Fair play TG4 putting RTE to shame. They showed The Wire as well before it became massive a few years ago.

Anyone know if it's just the first series and then a break before season 2?
I think season 1 only has 6 episodes

According to wiki ..The network originally ordered nine episodes for the first season (including the pilot), but the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike limited the production to seven episodes.

I think it is by far the most gripping show I have seen on TV, but I'm actually against it being shown over here. I think it glamorizes the whole drug culture and Crystal Meths in particular. Impressionable young people may think that they can take it up and give it up again as they want, same as Jessie.

I will be surprised if do not start hearing of seizures of Crystal Meths in the future in Ireland, and by that stage it will be too late.

Meths addicts are suppost to be really nasty. From what I've heard it makes other drugs like heroin look relatively harmless.

I wouldn't normally advocate censorship, but in this case I would make an exception, and ban it from the TV altogether.

    My tuppence worth anyway

The writers' strike did them a favour as Jesse was supposed to die at the end of Series 1. Jesse and Walt's relationship is a core element of the show and to lose him so early would have been a big loss for the series.

    I call shenanigans here.................

Do you seriously think that because Breaking Bad will be shown on TG4 that it is going to result in an increase in Meth use?? If thats the case then we can blame Sopranoes for all the gangland shootings here since 1995. I wonder how long it will be before we find an Al Quada operative in the Irish Defense Forces and we can blame Homeland??

One thing about Breaking Bad that I love apart from the dark humour, amazing dialogue, cinematography, acting etc is that it shows the consiquences of meth use from gangs to overdoses to losing family members etc. It does not glorify its use.

Enjoy the show for what it is.......................FECKING BRILLIANT!!

Ah now, he has a point in fairness. Sure when they started showing the Wire on tg4 there was a massive increase in drug related crimes here in Clare. There were corner boys on all the streets and you could hardly sleep with the hoppers yellin everytime they saw 5-0. And sure weren't the East Clare n***as and the West Clare n***as popping caps in each others asses for the hottest product and the best corners.. The Gardaí had to start cloning pagers and wiretapping the payphones to catch them. On top of that a brother couldn't even sling dope without being robbed by shotgun-wielding stick-up boys.
Don't even get me started on the corrupt politicians and the stevedores smuggling in eastern-european prostitutes in the shipping container.

    Sure twas madness..

Now in fairness, Jesse is depicted sinking into a sewer of hell and self-loathing. He is only saved by literally being dragged out by Walt and undertaking a lengthy rehab program. And I might quibble about him being saved since he ultimately sinks further and further into a dangerous lifestyle. If anything the show is very honest in its depiction of the danger of drug abuse.

Murt, are you serious? That scene when Jesse went into a house owned by 2 meth addicts only to find a kid instead was one of the most depressing things I've ever seen on tv. Glamorous? Not so much. If anything, I think it would put people off.

I think it does everything to make it seem as unglamorous as possible. If anyone finished it and wanted to start taking meth then they are simpletons.

Is the first episode repeated at all? I missed it.

And if not, can I start watching from the second episode onwards, or would I be confused?

I remember hearing ages ago that none of the stations over here (including the UK in that) were brave enough to show it - cause of what the show was about basically

so in short RTE didn't have the balls to show it i'd say, surprised C4 didn't pick it up though

Not quite, Gilligan had decided pretty much straight after he starting working with Aaron Paul that killing off Pinkman would be a huge mistake, but yeah the writer's strike insured that the episode it would have occured in was never even made.
You're right about the relationship between Jesse and Walt though, the selling point at the start was obviously how Walt gets from “Mr. Chips to Scarface”, but for me the strongest element of the show has always been the odd couple chemistry (no pun intended) between the two, followed by the addition of some fantastic characters like Mike, Gus, Hank and Saul.

Its very hard to explain the show in only a couple of sentences
And the people I do get to watch it are nearlly always >18 and male :P

In some ways I hope the number of fans over here stays small, makes it more special.

    Reply from TG4
    ,
    I hope you are well.

Unfortunately, TG4 do not have the rights to carry Breaking Bad on our Player.
The programme you identify as Breaking Bad Season 2 is actually a promo for the second series starting this Thurday.
Sorry I can’t be more help.
