Spongy feel from brakes

    Hi,

I never really liked the feel i got from the brakes on my Trek 4.5 so i upgraded the brakes from tigra to dura ace 7800 and it still feels spongy. Is there any adjustments on the caliper to make the lever feel firmer. I run carbon tubs and swiss brake blocks.

    Thanks in advance.

Nobody willing to pass on some advice regarding this?

I doubt it's a caliper issue, braking on carbon rims is worse than alloy ones.

Maybe check recommendations for brake blocks for your specific make of rim.

Is it more pronounced in the back than in the front? The rear cable has a far longer distance to travel, and so is more prone to friction. in both cases, I'd make sure the outers are clean and the inners rust-free and greased up before looking at anything else.

    Thanks for this information.

I have new blocks to try and changed inner and outer brake cables. I'll test them out tomorrow.

    Thanks again!

Is the brake block hitting the rim flat on. I just put some new blocks on the rear calipers at the weekend and the back of the block makes contact with the rim befoire the rest of the block engages fully on the rim. This gives it a slight spongy feeling.
