Agencies - Are They Worthwhile?

    Hi Folks,

I'm sorry if I'm a little clueless but I had been in the same job for the last 10 years and I simply handed in a CV for that back in the day so I have almost zero experience of dealing with agencies.

As a newly unemployed person with 10 years experience in management and purchasing in retail I'm looking for a job. I plan on looking at all avenues to find a job so an agency would seem a logical step. My question is- are they any good? Are there any you can recommend?

I would like to update my CV- after 10 years it's a little rusty. Consequently I think it might be better if I talk to a professional and have them help me to update it. I'm sure they'd be better able to express in a limited amount of works the skills that I've acquired over those 10 years.

I'm aware that I can send in a CV and have it updated through the likes of jobs.ie and others I'm sure but I would prefer to sit down with someone and go through it as it's always easier to verbally explain things rather than trying to do so in a written manner.

So- are agencies any good? Are there any you can recommend and lastly are there any that will help you update your CV or is there a separate place you can go for this?
