1940 US Census

This is a huge new development for US genealogy and has been eagerly awaited for the last few years.

A number of websites are competing to get all the indexing of images completed over the next few months.

Getting back to 1930 used to be a little awkward in some cases but decreasing that by 10 years will be great.

Apologies for starting a thread without seeing this one, I think I was able to delete it!

Very difficult to find anything on 1940 census. It can't be searched by name. So it's really only of use if you know exactly where the person you are looking for was living.

True, this will be remedied once the indexing is completed.

If you have ancestors in New York City then you can use this telephone directory tool from the New York Public Library.
