But govt. is slow to take them up on the offer.
THE HEAD of the Irish Technology Leadership Group in California has urged the Government to move quickly to secure the services of top business executives who have offered to serve on state boards without payment.

John Hartnett, founder of the ITLG, this week revealed the latest list of recruits who want to offer their services for the initiative, which was announced at last year’s Global Irish Economic Forum in Dublin Castle. The list includes executives from some of the world’s leading companies.

But Mr Hartnett said Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore, who was keen on the project when it was first suggested last year, had not yet been in contact to finalise details of the scheme.

A lot of our problems in this country stem from having highly paid but totally inept people making the big decisions. But is this offer too good to be true?

I remember the county councillors who took up unpaid positions "to serve the community" and later it turned out the expenses they were claiming, and the backhanders for granting lucrative contracts and planning permissions were far better than any salary.

I'm sure they'll be entirely independant and show no favour to anyone.

Do we think highly paid public servants would allow somebody to come into the organisation that would expose the ineptitude or lack of expertise they are being paid for?

Ministers appoint board members, not public servants (highly paid or otherwise).

Also a lot of board positions are now advertised.

Here is one for the National Development Finance Agency. Maybe you would consider applying and give them the benefit of your aptitude and vast economic and financial experience? Let us know how you get on.

Whats with the personal attack, please lets not drag the thread off topic.

I never said public servants appointed people to boards i said there would be resistance to people coming into the organisations by public servants these are two very different things.

Ministers have been appointing people to boards for years that have no expertise or experience so thats hardly a solid defence.
