USC refunds

Anyone have any luck getting a USC refund for 2011 yet? Submitted my claim a month ago and rang to follow up last week and was told it will be at least 6 weeks.

Does anyone know if interest on refunds extends to the USC? I'm in Australia so don't have the leg to hand, on memory it is 90 days before one would be entitled to an interest claim. Actually are paye workers even entitled to interest?

Would be tiny sum but might as well get every penny from them!

I got my refund a month ago. Took around 3 weeks but mostly due to my employer not having submitted their forms. After everything was in I had the refund with 3 days.

What are the circumstances for a USC refund?

At the risk of repeating myself (think I've been saying this since January) Unfortunately it can take from 2 to12 weeks to process some refunds due to a combination of the time of year ( January through to April is the busiest time of year for PAYE) reduction in staff numbers, an increase in security checks on PAYE/USC refunds and waiting on employers to file end of year returns. This is especially true in cases of multiple employments and Social welfare payments. Some PAYE areas have fewer cases to deal with or more staff or prioritise certain items at the expense of others which accounts for a quicker turnaround.
Regarding the interest, its 93 days for certain taxheads like VAT after all necessary information has been provided. Since the USC is brand new i'm pretty sure that interest would not apply.

Have a look at the link below which gives you a breakdown of how the USC works. If you believe you have overpaid the USC contact your local PAYE area.
