Mazda 2.3T Excessive service requirements? (CX7, 3MPS, 6MPS)

Anyone else consider the following OTT or is this the norm now for boosted FSI type petrols?

    - CX7 2.3T requires Oil change every 6mths / 7500miles
-- CX7 Diesel on the other hand is 12500 miles and 12mths yet we consider modern diesels more fragile!?

    - 6/3MPS first service at 3000 miles, then at 9000 miles, then at 18,000
-- The RX8 which is a known Servicing hog manages to have well over 2x longer intervals!

Now the real kicker comes in when you have problem (family own a CX7, and from their ownership and online research, its a pants engine reliability and performance wise) - any miss to the above service schedules is met with "we found the problem but your warranty was voided".

Quick Googling suggests its peers like the TFSI GTI Golf are around 10k miles intervals, which is a bit more normal.

It's seems a lot. I'd wager the majority of the 2.3 turbos missed the initial 3k or in the CX's case 6 month service. It is very peculiar, especially from a Japanese manufacturer.

Yup, thats what happened and a fault which was in the vehicle from new (and reported several times) has just being diagnosed finally, conveniently 2mths outside of regular warranty, with the hope of goodwill/extended warranty being shot down due to that initial service period, years beforehand.

My Subaru Forester needed its first service at 1000 miles (apparently they use different oil for running-in), and every 9000 miles thereafter. I was told when I got the car to make sure I brought it back after 1000 miles as that first oil change was critical.

Modern service intervals are too long in many cases. No wonder turbo's etc are going at 70 and 80k miles. Most long life oil engines burn oil constantly, so you're topping up regularly enough, probably meaning that in the 30k kilometres interval you've already gone through a sump and a half of new oil anyway.
Those intervals are a little short alright, but not alarmingly so. The only part that would annoy me is the 6 months part.
