    Hi,
Eircom.net email will not let me in. It keeps asking me to confirm my name and password. Despite giving correct details goes as far as processing and then just asks again and again and again........ etc..

Just happened yesterday for no reason. Was not anywhere near settings, because I dont know what any of them do:o and all of a sudden, this just popped up.

Happens every so often and dont know why. Could be gone for a few hours up to a good few days. Anyone any idea what the cause may be? Any help really welcome.

    Thanks.

Change to gmail if you can.

Are you using webmail or a mail client software (Outlook, Windows Mail, Thunderbird, eyc.)?

That doesn't solve the problem now does it? If someone comes on here asking for help with an Internet Explorer problem, someone will always tell them that IE is crap and that they should switch the Chrome/Firefox/Safari(which ever is cool that day).

There has been a couple of threads today about some of eircom's servers being down today. Hasn't happened to me before as far as I know, hopefully it will be fixed soon.

I am going to answer this stupidly:o

To get into eircom mail I have an icon on my desktop, called Windows Mail, and that gets me in. Had a pain in the a**e going through eircom homepage so my brother set this up for me.

I think that may answer your query??? I told you I know nothing about how the computer works, just the packages I need. Know what I need to kinda job.:D

Also, as Kevin suggested, if there are a few eircom servers down then at least it may not be just me then. Cant get eircom tech support either as need account with them and dont have one.

    It does indeed.

Now you can try the following in Windows Mail:

Go to Tools > Accounts and open your eircom account settings. Change the incoming mail server from mail1(or 2).eircom.net to webmail.eircom.net

If that doesn't solve the problem, go to eircom webmail, login with your credentials (your username without "@eircom.net") and see if you can access your mails from there.

If you have your details saved and they work intermittedly that sounds a bit odd, make sure Windows Live Mail has the correct POP/SMTP servers being used (try webmail.eircom.net, mail2.eircom.net etc.). If you use a different internet provider (not eircom) you will need to use your providers SMTP details, so this may be the issue you are facing. Check with your provider that the details you have are valid and still supported/they may have been suffering technical difficulties causing the problem

And if none of that works they have a Forum on Boards here.

Few threads there from folk with email probs.

I doubt it's a problem with the outgoing mailserver and the provider (unless the OP has changed their ISP yesterday). When asked for username and password, it's most certainly an issue with the incoming mailserver, eircom don't use secure login for outgoing mails. ;)

Had a look at that Eircom forum and it appears that they all lost their service the same time about as I did.

Considering I know Jack about the workings of this computer, I might wait it out until later to see if it pops back in, as Eircom Tony estimated. If not I will try the "settings" suggested.

Thanks for all responses and I'm sure I'll be back over here again with more questions in time:D

    Hello everyone,

I had a similar(?) problem to the op. I route my eircom.net email through gmail. I noticed today that I had not received emails to this address since the end of last week. So I logged on directly to eircom webmail and it appears I had exceeded their storage limits - this wasn't surprising as I hadn't logged into their servers for ages.

While all now seems to be working again, I still have a gap in emails sent to this address from the end of last week to this afternoon. Do you think there is any way I can get access to these lost mails?

    Thanks for your help!

Hardly. If you inbox is full, any new mails will be returned to sender.

Thanks for your help. Does this mean that if I had also tried to send a mail I would get a message from the server saying it wouldn't be sent? I haven't had any such messages, so, er, hopefully I can assume any messages were sent - and so received by the recipient? Maybe not though if the old inbox is full eh?

No, your outgoing mails are a different matter.

Of course, if the recipents mailbox is full as well, you would not receive a "delivery failed" message while your own mailbox is full. ;)
