Dubrovnik - Bari - Corfu

Hi all - am planning this years summer hol, we have a gem of a spot we've been going to in Corfu for the last couple of years but the gf has decided we need to see new places too so that we don't get bogged down...so as a compromise we're going to try and get to Corfu on a sightseeing holiday by a convoluted route and then do the beach holiday sit-on-our-arses thing in Greece.

The preferred option so far is fly to Dubrovnik, 4 or 5 days there then ferry to Bari in Italy and onward ferry to Corfu.

Has anyone any experience of travelling on the ferries in the Adriatic? Some of the reviews I've seen that the ferries are nice enough but the check-in procedures can be a nightmare (4hrs+, particularly in Italy). Should I be looking at booking cabins / reserved seating (some of the companies talk about aircraft seating) or is deck space generally sufficient assuming you're not the last person on the boat?

Also is Bari worth an extended stopover?
