Light doesnt come on when door open - Fiesta 99 lx

    Hi,

My interior light is not coming on when a door is opened on my car. The light comes on when I manually switch it on in the car, so I've eliminated the light being faulty. I've also eliminated the switches on all the doors being faulty as I have tried opening all doors, but the light still doesn't come on. Has anyone got any suggestions to try get this working? I'm kind-of a newbie to the interior workings of a car, so simplified instructions would help me out alot. Thanks.

    Squinchy.

There are three positions on the switch: Off/On/Door. Check it's not in the Off

There are three switch positions - off, always on, and on when door open. Are you sure it's set to the last one?

    Edit: Beaten to it!

pop off the light and look at the pins,
    there's usually 3

    one permanent live 12v
    one goes to the bulb
    and ones auto switch 12v

the contact on the switch sits between the bulb pin and either switch or permanent 12v depending on position.the pins can bend and not make contact some times so check them out

I'd use a multi meter to see if theres 12vs at the light when the doors open,
the lights prob 5 normally closed switches wired in parallel.(unless the car has a canbus system but I doubt it in a 99)
so if any door/boot opens the contact closes sending 12v to the light.
So you should have 12v at each of the door button things.
I doubt there would be two fuses for the light but stranger things have happened,
get the haynes manual and check the wiring diagram.

or it might be switch on the negative side in which case you wont have 12v at the door buttons,
    you need the wiring diagram

Cheers for the replies all. I have a new bit of info. When the boot door opens, the light in the boot comes on ( if thats at all helpful)

Spray a bit of three in one on the little button in the door frame and push it in and out a few times.

    Problem solved.
