Toilet bowl emptying of water when flushed

My toilet has started doing this, and I was wondering what causes it?

When I flush the water vanishes out of the bowl for maybe half a second then it comes back in.

Only started and wondering if its a sign of anything?

    Something down there is thirsty.

Your toilet is syphoning, either the existing vent is blocked, or you need to have one fitted.

As said by Auto above. Just keep an eye on it. Sometimes this happens and passes without the need for detailed investigation.

What room does it happen in. ie Main Bathroom, Ensuite, Downstairs bathroom.

What style of house is it. ie Council style 60/70's house.

    Modern semi D.

As aujopimur said its probably a blocked vent or no vent , but my money would be on a blocked sewer pipe, pop up your ajs and man hole cover and have a look.

I've also seen this happen when the system is blocked.

    Thanks for the replies.

Its happening in ensuite bathroom. The house is detached, built around 10yrs ago. It also has a septic tank, so some of the replies are worrying me. I do have the odd smell out the back and never had full confidence in my septic tank.

Must get it checked out. There's a manhole directly outside that toilet in the driveway. Must get it lifted and have a look.
