I couldn't believe it..... 2 x Members to a Bucket shaking it as it if was the World Cup they had in their hands. Well I walked straight pass them and just shook my head and though to my mtself... TALK ABOUT BRASS NECKS!!!

On hindsight I wish I said something to them!! Something like

    1. I voted for you in last election on the basis that you said that you would reverse previous bad decisions.
    2. I had my daughter beside my (20yrs) - and you will cost me another €250 ayear for her fees next year AND
3.I just paid €100 yesterday for the Household Tax

    AND.....

you now want me to put my hand in my pocket and give you a contribution to running your party.

    Have they no shame.....

Whilst the OP had mentioned some valid points, my own opinion so long as they had permission to be there collecting I would not have an issue with it. It gives the public a chance to interact with Labour members and give some feedback.

Another rant disguised as an OP.

They have the democratic right to fund-raise, you had the democratic right to refuse to contribute. What was the problem?

I'm curious given we were borrowing 20 billion a year at that time what you really thought was going to happen?

Now don't get me wrong Labour did say quite a bit of stuff during the election there was no way they could actually carry out. The only thing that surprises me though is you thought they could actually do it.

Perhaps we should stop swallowing unrealistic populist crap, the type of stuff that got Fianna Fail repeatedly elected. Though to do that we'd need to stop expecting our politicians to promise it in the first place.

Must have been Labour Partys take on an Aprils 1st.
You should have stuck a 100 yoyos in it .
Close the Vatican embassy , seperate church and state but lets use it to line the coffers first...
Labour as a party are a joke...some decent individual front benchers

Maybe I am niave but YES I did believe they would do as they promised. These same people stood on my doorstep and gave it to me in writing. When I put my hand out and shake on something - I will deliver good on my word.

    MOD NOTE:

OP, this is not Liveline. If you want to have a discussion about the practice of collecting outside of a church then fine, but this is little more than a rant.

Please refer to the charter before starting a thread in this forum again. Specifically:

This is a Politics forum, not Liveline.

Certain standards of debate are expected, and will be enforced. Your posts must contribute to debate, not derail it or drag it into mob chanting.
