I have a little gripe with radio presenters repeatedly referring to their family members. George Hook & Ivan Yates from Newstalk are especially at fault. I cringe when I hear about "the lovely Ingrid" or Deirdre. Anyone else agree?

Tom Dunne is woeful for it, he refers to Audrey and the kids at least 20 times a show.:p

    Yep. I've mentioned this before.
    Newstalk are particularly guilty.

As well as your examples, Tom Dunne hardly goes a day without mentioning Audrey and his kids.
    (Christ, those bloody kids).

Fionn Davenport is another culprit, but not as bad. He simply refers to his 'other half' a bit too often.

I'm also a regular listener to RTÉ Radio 1 and I have no idea of the names of the wives or husbands of any presenters there.

It must be a Newstalk thing.

Can't stand tabloid anything, including tabloid radio. This sort of personality nonsense is the worst example of tabloid radio. As other people have said, Newstalk is the worst, by a long shot - the Sunday Independent of radio.

It's not about you, you muppets. Get over yourselves. What can you give us, listeners? How can you enlighten our day? How can you inspire us? How can you make the world of the average listener just a little bit bigger, a little bit richer?

Wafflers. Wasters. Unprofessional, self-absorbed lugs of the highest order.

Its embarrassing, we really don't give a damn about their children and wives. That they do this is beyond the joke. "Mom and Pop" radio!

Ray Darcy is fairly guilty of that as well! Every second person he interviews is told that he has a daughter called Kate etc, etc...

Sounds like Liveline apart from the late night bit and Joe Duffy gets paid multiples of what any late night jock gets paid. It' essentially the same thing though.

Hook must be the worst of all time, if it's not "the lovely Ingrid" every half hour, he's now going on about his daughter and the "most recent addition to the Hook family" - cringeworthy garbage, as if that insufferable Yank he brings on every so often from Boston isn't bad enough.

Gerry Ryan was another one for it, the constant references to Mrs. Ryan and regular unwarranted updates on family members at every opportunity.

Must feel good to know you can get paid for talking the kind of shlte that would see you all alone at a bar counter within two minutes of opening your trap.

However and having said that, Joe Duffy doesn't mention his brother, Brendan, often enough imo :D

I agree it's very annoying, I was speaking to the very good and lovely Mrs Murpho999 about this earlier today and she agreed but the kids didn't care!

Gerry Ryan was the worst, I think most of the nation can put a name to most of his family and family pets over the years. He actually use to have shows devoted to telling the listener about his summer family holidays.

i'm not surprised he's gushing in his praise of Ingrid. His "lovely" Trinity lecturer wife probably gave him repeated dig outs when his business ventures were going belly up.

I dont have an issue with it up to a level.

I mean most people cant help but mention their families in day to day to conversation.

Its when it becomes a constant topic that it becomes an issue.

Tom Dunne is the number one offender in my opinion.

The way he carried on you'd think he was the only one to ever have had kids.

As a parent I'm painfully aware that most people don't give a flying **** what my little lad did today. TD should cop that as welll
