    Hi,

I am looking at making a dog transporter to put on the hitch of my car.

I am making it for my terriers and hope to make it into two compartments.

I was wondering if any one has pictures of their transporter and in particular the part that fits onto the tow bar.

Do they fit on the swan neck tow bar?

I know you can buy them off the done deal and they look pretty good, but I am looking for two copartments and I am a bit of a tight git.

Also for owners of the transporter, how do you find them what are the pros and cons.

    Thanks,

    Rebel

Here you go lad. From a box I had & sold awhile back. There's probably other designs out there but here's one I had...

This design fits all ball hitches. If I still had it I'd get dimensions for you

This is the front as you look at the back of the car.

This is the reverse, you tighten the screw down on the ball hitch.

When you put on the bracket you take off the plate & put the neck of the hitch through the slot. Put back on the plate around it so the ball is trapped inside the bracket. As said tighten up the bolt then.
The bolt has a flanged nut on it that you tighten first to lock the plate, then tighten the bolt

Here is only picture I have of it on. The bracket has 2 box iron slots on top that you slot the legs of the box into & lock together with a pin.

    Hi Epointer,

Thanks for the pictures and description it is very helpful.

I was wondering if a trailer hitch would do the same job or would it not hold the box in place properly?

Did you make it up yourself or did you buy it?

How did you find the transporter, do you use a trailer, if so how would you compare them?

    Thanks,

    No problem.
A standard hitch might swing without some sort of stability plate or flange.
The beauty of the nut & bolt system is that it tightens the whole thing up. It is tricky to get it on right. When I had it on I used leave the bracket on all the time as I'd rarely be townig anything else with the car.

I bought it on donedeal a few years ago after getting sick of the trailer. I only do short runs & the trailer was overkill. I since bought a pick up jeep so have best of both worlds.

I would prefer a trailer/ jeep if doing long journeys or at speed on main roads. The boxes are light & your dog is goosed if had a tip with the box. I used go a mile or 2 on back roads so was perfect for that...

    Epointer,

    Thanks for the information .

I am looking for something similar to what you were using it for. Using it for taking the dogs local.

I will talk to a friend about making up something along the lines that you had.

    Thank again.
