VW Transporter is it worth saving. Little or no rot. One owner. Parked 15 years. 70 000 miles.

Getting scarce and rising slowly in value,
Seems to be extremely rot free, ie , no seam rash as it's known in VW circles.
Water cooled engine, judging by the extra grille at the front.
Would be an enviable easy machine to tidy up.;)

Really? I thought they were all air cooled.
Is it still a flat four?

Nope, they came in both air-cooled and water-cooled
    Air-cooled flat 4's I think 1.7 and 1.9 petrol
Water-cooled flat 4's, I think 1,8 and 2.0 petrol, Wasserboxers as they were called.
    Water-cooled Inline 4's, 1.6D and 1.6T/D diesel engines.
W/C vans have the extra grill below the main headlight grill, for the radiator, naturally.

I'm not 100% sure of the petrol engine sizes, and I'm open to correction.;)

    is it worth saving????

have you got the dry storage space for it?
have you got money to do anything with it?
have you got any knowledge of them?

i think its worth saving, it gets classic tax next year....parts should be pretty easy to come by for them.....i think there is an add on done deal for 2 of these for sale....

get it bought and saved :D

I'd save it any way if I could, these are only going to get rarer!

its petrol were they a good engine
Very good engine, same reliability as the aircooled version if looked after.

If I had this van I would have the engine and mechanicals sorted first.
The noise you say from the engine would worry me. I would try and get it started and determine what the noise is, and then calculate costs as per your budget, then make a decision if it's worth it or just blow it on.
Too many projects have been started never to see the light of day again because of lack of funds/time.
