It depends on learner if it's 1 hour = 1 edt lesson, you may do EDT lesson and in end of it your instructor may tell you that he cannot sign that you completerd this lesson if you did way too bad.
I am on my 10 lesson but I did already 15 hours, and not because I am bad learner but because I dont have sponsor, so I pay instructor basically for an hour practice where he lets me drive randomly around places I want, doesnt teach me anything, answers questions and suggests what I did wrong and what I should improve, so I totally always do 2 hours: 1 practice and 1 EDT.
So your friend could be doing that as well, or maybe his ADI told him he didn't pass that lesson.

Sounds like your friend has done 3 hours of "familiarization" in their instructors car as recommended by the RSA then 4 EDT lessons. This is perfectly normal and acceptable.

Preparation for EDT Lesson 1 in the Info Booklet states that 3hrs should be done first.

An EDT lesson is not a test. It cannot be passed or failed.
If you don't have a sponsor you should do an EDT lesson then in the hr(s) after that particular lesson practice the skills taught in that lesson eg. Do EDT 2 then, as the RSA recommend, practice correct positioning for around 3 hours before moving onto EDT 3 not just random driving with no instruction driving where you wish. The ADI should bring you to areas that allow you to practice the skills you are trying to improve/practice.

he have an sponsor, hes practising a lot.Nowhere is said that the EDT lessons are a test lessons....and to be honest these lessons are bullsh.... cos it gives the ADI the oportunity to rip-off the learner;in the instructors opinion no learner is up the standards so they can say"i dont sign u this lesson cos ur not up to the standard" even if thats not true but only becouse he needs more money in hes poket.....is not up to yhe instructor to say that, thats y u have to sit a driving test whit an tester to see if ur up to an safe driving....

I think you should read my explanation above before making sweeping generalisations about ADI's.

The person you have quoted above is not giving the correct information.

i didnt said ALL instructors do that....i was speaking only about my friend instructor....i know there are very good instructors out there who care about the safety of people but unfortunatly not all are the same....and the way these regulations(EDT ones) are made give the oportunity to THOSE instructrs to do that.
Sorry if i offend u in any way...

Fair enough but as I explained I'd imagine your friend has had 3 hours familiarisation prior to starting their EDT lessons and now has 4 completed totalling 7 hours
