    Hi all,
Long time reader, first time poster here.
I'm hoping that your collective intelligence and experience can help me here.

    I have two octavias -
    04, 1.4 petrol, 38k miles, immaculate condition
08, 1.9 tdi, 30k miles, great condition (bit of a dent on rear far-side quarter and small mark on front bumper)

I'm looking to upgrade to, wait for it, another octavia (great for the kids and buggies etc).
I've only been to two places so far and looked at 11 1.6tdi and 11 1.2tsi.
Both in Ambiente spec with A/C, alloys, fogs etc.

Both garages offered 4k for the 04.
One offered 9k for the 08 and the other 10k.
First garage offered 10k for both, second 12k for both.
They mentioned having to split the margin across two cars and thus not getting market value on one.
Not sure I fully understand, but I guess I can see their point.

    My main questions are:
Is this the right way to about this?
Will that 1.2tsi be anywhere near as economical/ efficient as my 1.9, or the 1.6?

I drove the 1.2 and it seemed fine.
Obviously it lacked the low down pull form the 1.9, but it didn't drive two differently from my current car.
The mother-in-law has the 1.6 and it's the same nearly as mine.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
