    Hi guys,

I was looking for some advice. I have a 00 fiat seceinto which I'm rather fond of. However the clutch cable keep snapping on it. It costs me 70 euro to have the garage replace the cable and then it last for about 6 months before going again.

I was wondering if it would make more sense for me to replace the clutch altogether or would this even help the situation?

    Advice appreciated :)

Likely the springs in the pressure plate have gone stiff, is the clutch pedal heavy? If so a new clutch kit would sort it out nicely..

I cant say I have noticed weather its heavy of not. Todate I've had 2 ford fiestas and a ford ka so I don't have much to compare it too.

But the car has always been difficult to get into 1st and 2nd gear. I know I can tighten the cable further and it eases the problem a little. But I think the cable last longer if its a little looser.

No matter how stiff the cluth is, I don't think it's normal for clutch cables to be snapping that often.
Also price seems to be horrendous.

That's the clutch cable for seicento 1.1 http://allegro.pl/linka-sprzegla-cinquecento-seicento-1-1-fabr-dby-i2191820327.html for about 5 euro + postage.

Fitting it shouldn't be more than 30 minutes DIY job.

However I would take a proper look at it, as promlem might lay somewhere else. At which point is the cable snapping? Is it always the same? Maybe pedal is bent or something else is not straight.

    Yaaaay Seicento! :)

€70 seems reasonable for a garage as it is a bit fiddly to do. My advice would be to buy either a new cable or nut or both as if you are using the same parts, those parts are old and worn at this stage.

We got a new cable from NW Kehoes for around £15 and fitted it ourselves

You really think a €5 clutch cable would help his situation?

€70 is a perfectly reasonable price to have a cable(from an Irish supplier) supplied and fitted.

I do agree though that you should have all components checked properly as there will be something causing the regular failures.

Thanks for all the input guys and girls!

My mechanic did tell me the cable is cheap but said replacing it was a bit fiddly and hence the labor and vat push the price up. I can adjust the cable myself but wouldn't replace it.
I had a look online and a new clutch kit is about 80 euro, might be cheaper from the UK.

The nct is next week so i might just wait for it to get through and then invest in changing the clutch kit .
I really like driving this car and its really cheap to run so don't want to change it just yet.

To be honest I don't think the clutch cable OP was getting fitted many times for €70 was any different in quality that that €5 one shown by me.
However I forgot that the one I showed was for LHD car, while op need one for RHD. Here might be a big difference in price.

Probably it is, provided it's as OP said it's a fiddly job for his mechanic.
I rememer changing a cable in cinquecento 1.1 and it was only 30 minutes job for me, even I had no clue where to start with. This was however LHD version. Maybe here's the difference.
