Is Montrose genuflecting on one bended knee to Murdoch and it's ilk?

    One can only imagine.

There seems to be a lack of films on 2 since they went HD
    or has anybody else noticed?

Still, their programming is just fantastic.

What does that sentence even mean?

Do you mean are RTE not showing films because Sky are putting pressure on them not to?

If so then the answer I'd say is a resounding, No. What influence over RTE would Sky have?

I'd say the reason could well be they're not doing it because they found they don't have the money to get the bigger, newer releases and the older films don't get the ratings they want so it's more cost effective to show programs perhaps?

I remember when RTE had the best films at night-time... at about 2 or 3 in the morning when everyone was asleep!
Now I just glance at TCM and Film4 and hope for something decent, although Film4 have had some strange ones recently (e.g. He's Just Not That Into You, i think i seen John Tucker Must Die on there a while ago)

    1. Cinema
    2. DVD / Blu-Ray
    2. Internet
    4. Television

In that order (joint second FTW).

The odd late night showing of The Good The Bad and The Weird or Dolls is about all you're going to get these days on terrestrial television.

Since Film-4 went free a few years back the quality of films have plummeted. They still show some good stuff of course, but theirs a lot of crap on it that would have completely been against their ethos back when they started.

Sadly the more mainstream and populist the film the better the viewing figures. 9pm seems to be when they show the crap but there is nearly always something interesting on there at least once a day so it's not all bad.

Yep because butchered films featured on ITV are just brilliant.

I always keep an eye on RTE's film and documentary output - outside the mainstream hours.

They show some truly edgy and illuminating stuff, albeit not as much as they used to.

They do still pull a rabbit out of the hat occasionally though.

My prefered version. Lately I'm finding tv more & more unwatchable. GFetting past the dribble thats shown, the constant loud ad breaks ruin any enjoyment a programe/film may offer.

Theres atleast 15 movie channels on Sky Digital. Does it really matter that RTE don't show that many films?

€40 a month?,it's €28 a month for Sky Movies, however there are loads of movies available FTA on satellite. Some gems to be found for free via satellite tv.

Has anyone noticed how RTE always show a chickflick every time the Champions League is on?

BTW Sky have now got exclusive rights for all the James Bond movies,no more FTA Bond.

RTE have gone downhill with their movies in the last while (I'll say nothing about their other programming) Channel 4 seems to be the place for half decent free movies now.

Haven't relied on tv for movies in years, DVD rentals and ones I own plus especially Netflix nowadays means there is more than enough for me to watch, though I might be flicking through the channels and a good, old movie I don't own on dvd like (as happened recently) Passport To Pimlico will be on and I'll watch it, I'd say films on tv would be about 5% of what I watch now though.

Can't remember the last time I've watched a movie on TV, especially RTE. Netflix, Sky Movies, and DVD rentals really seem to have contributed to the pure and utter ****e being shown on terrestrial TV nowadays

if you check out the late films on rte i think you'll find
some quite good films which are not available elsehwere.

tg4 has some of the same. everything's not at the end of the rainbow
    in pay for it land.

    :)

Movies on TV has generally gone downhill since the introduction of Digital TV especially Sky's movie service which is now extremely lazy and stale. However there is still many good movies shown on the BBC channels and Channel 4, there is even the odd good one on ITV channels and Channel 5.

Sky used to be fantastic for movies back in the day when they had only 2 movie channels on analogue. Back then there was also great movies on other channels such as the subscription based Film4, Film 4 Extreme as well as some continental based channels which used to be available on the old analogue satellite system such as RTL4 and FilmNet. Movies on the current sky system is just so poor compared to the good old days of analgue, if anything I think what is now available on terrestrial tv is better than the pay services on Sky. TV Shows in general now are better than the movies that are shown on tv. Things have changed so much over past 10 years.

some of those german analogue channels used to come up with
    some real delights.

they used to show the exorcist when it was still banned
on video here and even screened the very amusing 10
    in an afternoon slot?!?!
