    Hi everyone

I'm just wondering if anybody knows whether you can teach in Australia with an Irish degree?
I have an Arts degree from NUIG and I'm currently doing my H. Dip in primary education. My partner is out of work and has been for quite a while and I can't see the situation improving anytime soon so we're thinking of emigrating next summer. So my questions are:
Will I be qualified to teach in Australia?
Do I need to complete my dip/probation time first or could I do the equivalent over there?

    Thanks!

I have a friend currently in Australia who did the Hibernia primary teaching qualification here about 2 years ago, she is teaching in a primary school in Melbourne and its looking like she will get a more permanent contract soon (she has been in the school for approx a year)...so yes you can !!

I thought you had to have your dip done?

It'd be worth posting on http://forum.educationposts.ie/index.php questions about teaching in Oz come up a lot there.

Yep, it depends on the state and school. Some will look for 4 years of college(meaning the post grad in Primary teaching/ H.dip would make it four years) so dip for primary teaching would not be included, and some look for the dip. I have nearly a years Primary teaching experience now, as well as experience teaching piano, tutoring and TEFL for 2 years. I did the B.Ed so only have 3 years of college done, they won't take it. . and as much as I'd love to go to oz, I know I wouldn't get a job there without the dip even with lots of teaching experience. .

I think it should be the case that the 3 college years and atleast a year experience would be enough. That is like 4 years of work in the area then, same as college.
