Problems with Sky+ features and software. How do their competitors compare

    I just posted a thread previously about a different matter so hope this thread is ok as I want to keep this seperate.

    Problems with Sky
    1 You can record only 2 shows at once although there are 900+ stations.

    2 Saved programs can not be moved to folders which leads to sprawling menu.

    3 Cant remove unwanted stations from menu which clog up the menu.

    4 Erratic recording of programs. Some programs not recorded regularly although record series option selected. Also some saved programs deleted.

    5 The programs you record are not yours to keep.

    Would the same problems occur with UPC or Freeview menus. Is all satellite/cable TV software basically the same?

    Would appreciate any help with this as these are the reasons Im not renewing Sky subscription.

    1, there are two tuners in a sky box so 2 recordings at once.

    2, series link are kept in folders.

    3, select favourite channels and ignore the rest

    4, watch some stuff you have recorded and delete it (or copy to a dvd)
    . programs are deleted automatically to allow a new recording. or change out the hard drive for a bigger one.

    5, watch it and delete.


    you could build a htpc with 4 tuners all record onto a 3TB drive.

    they are not all the same, software and hardware are of differing quallity and functionality.



    lots of sat boxes only have now and next epg. afaik only freesat branded boxes like the foxsat hd have a 7 day epg (officially)

    there are other boxes like dreambox and vu+duo etc (have a look at foreign sat forum ) but need a lot of tinkering to get them how you want them.

    I dont think any non freesat box would be as user friendly as a sky box,
    (open to correction and clarification on that one:D ) .
