My Sky subscription ends in 30days and I also need to get a new HDTV.

What is the cheapest way of getting a new HDTV and being able to watch Freeview and Saorview

I am considering getting a ferguson set top box Ferguson Ariva 120 Combo for Ireland that combines Freeview and Saorview and purchasing a HD/TV seperately

Im aware of TVs that have either Freeview or Saorview incorporated but not both Freeview and Saorview.

What would be the best solution

Unless you live close to the NI border or on the Wexford coast you can forget about Freeview.

Cheapest option is get a FTV card for the Skybox. €15 on Adverts.ie

You are buying a new HD tv so make sure it's saorview compatible, viola you get fta & saorview.

Sky will contact you shortly after you cancel & will most likely offer 12 months half price to go back, judging by your other post it seems you had a faulty Skybox so if they do offer a deal and you are tempted then try & wrangle a new box out of them too;)

Been stated here many times that you get all the ITV and Channel 5s on the EPG alongside the the home channels which means you also get the full benefits of Sky+

Thanks lads and thanks for the tip Zerks ,

I didnt think that a Ftv card would work in a Sky box. Assuming it does work would it have an EPG or would I just get the stations without any programming menus etc.

Does anyone know If a Saorview approved TV could also be used as a monitor for a laptop and if so could they recommend a model.

Do any of you think the Ferguson box is worth considering. Are there any advantages to it over combining a FTV card/Sky box with a Saorview TV.

The Irish EPG is now on HD boxes as default now,so a FTV card overides this and gives you the UK EPG,simply save the free channels as favourites and use the blue button to scroll through them.

99% of new tv's can be used as monitors, even easier if your laptop has a HDMI socket, just plug & play.
Try POWERCITY for a tv,some decent deals there. All specs are available on their website.

Thnaks Zerks, ill check out the site and a few others for quotes.

Just wondering, if I have a Saorview Tv combined with a Freview card in a Sky box would it be possible to order football matches from either Sky or Setanta in the future.

Would using the Freeview card in the Sky box prohibit me from using Sky afterwards.

Would it be possible to combine Sky subscription with a Freeview card and a Saorview Tv. Are there any programs on Freeview that are not on Sky and are they worth having.

    Hope you get my point

    Thanks

just thought of something else. Can live football matches on a laptop be shown on an LCD Tv if laptop connected to a Tv.

Basically I dont want to lose out on watching Sport. Thats my main concern about choosing Freeview over a subscription package. Maybe the laptop is a way around it.

There no simple solution to have Irish channels / Soarview on the EPG with a FTV card & Sky box is there? That would require a combo box I'm guessing?
