Here comes the bad news... Sudan decided to deprive all Christians of Sudan citizenship and expel 700.000 of them from the country.

It seems that democratic changes in Egypt when the Muslim Brotherhood seized the power became an example for the rest of the Middle Eastern and North African countries and became a start of massive persecutions against Christians there.
Guys, I think Europe shouldn't sit still and watch how millions of coreligionists are being treated and must prevent such foul barbarian policy towards religious people! Of course those poor expellees will flee to Europe and, don't get me wrong, but they will be additional financial burden for us, because we will have to provide them with everything they will need. And anyway, such Sudan's display of hatred towards people of different views and religion is simply inadmissible today!

Very little non-religious media reporting this so it's hard to know what the situation is. The only useful, balanced media coverage I came across was this one from The Voice of Russia. Yes I know it's unusual to call TVOR balanced.

Dr. de Kock, according to reports coming from the Barnabas Fund some 500 000 to 700 000 people who are mainly Christians of southern origin are now being forced out of Sudan having been stripped of their citizenship the Fund reports. They have to decide until the 8th of April either to leave the northern country or to be treated as foreigners. And we need to remind our listeners that many of them fled north during the long civil war and have been staying in the northern part of the country for a number of years. So, how accurate is this report?

If that is the case I would be quite surprised because I do know the one issue that has been under negotiation – the southern people who are still living in Northern Sudan, I think one of the things they are negotiating about is at what point in this year will they have to either go back to Southern Sudan or to then apply for residence permits in Sudan. And that is one process I know of but whether this have actually been actions to expel Christians – I’m not so sure about that.

North & South Sudan have some very serious humanitarian problems, I'm not sure if there's a suggestion that it's worse because these specific people - Christians of a Southern origin - share a religion with a lot of Europeans? I think lots of people would be very uncomfortable with that suggestion.

It seems to me that if there is an emerging humanitarian problem, it could have more to do with national allegiance than faith. If not, why are all Christians not being allegedly expelled?

This is terrible news in many ways... This just confirms what I already knew, Africa has become the new target for wars, no more the middle east and Asia. The rhetoric in that American article is unsettling "a new Iran" and "enemy of America". Will Obama, a man of African origin, start a confrontation against Sudan? It would be a great hypocrisy if he did.

I'd like to see the story from a more neutral source before jumping in on this, theres nothing on BBC, Reuters, AlJazeera and the only thing about Sudan on France24 is about alleged bombing of souther oil fields by northern planes http://www.france24.com/en/20120327-south-sudan-accuses-north-sudanese-air-forces-bombing-main-oil-fields-unity-state

There are some questions I'd like to see clarified if this is actually happening.
    1. Would it be just christian south-sudanese being expelled or all south-sudanese (including muslims)
    2. Are north-sudanese christians being expelled also?

Seeing nothing on the savedarfur.org web site either. They would normally comment on anything dodgy coming from the Sudanese regime. So, will wait for another source on this.

Look at all those Christian comments at the bottom of the story...

    from rational wiki re FSM:
They advocate the creation of more Guantanamo Bay-style prisons[2], compare a peaceful visit to a man's house by CAIR members to Nazi paramilitary tactics[3], and attack oversight of surveillance programs as dangerous[4]. FSM also advocates a view of terrorism as a monolithic force at war with the West and they advocate the devotion of tremendous government and military resources to defense without safeguards against abuse.
FSM publishes news and opinion pieces with a particular focus on connecting terrorism to everyday safety threats. They achieved a level of prominence after publishing a now-removed essay by Philip Atkinson advocating the depopulation of Iraq for resettlement by American colonists and the elevation of then-President George W. Bush to President-for-life. The less sensational fare is still somewhat disturbing.

    a defense industry front group.

There should at least be a warning in the OP who these guys are IMO.

This goes much deeper than just religion. It's not a purely sectarian matter, there's deep hatred between many tribes in Sudan which is also a huge factor in this, certain tribes having certain religions.

"There is no place for Christians in Sudan"

Send in the US military...there's plenty of oil in the south I hear.

cue "Sudanese Warlord 2012" video followed by "Sudanese Warlord 2012 video maker caught naked and distraught around city"

No chance until Sudan discovers oil.

Sarcasm or misinformed person...South Sudan has been owned by the west for 20+ years....

It's all good though, only black people own the land.
