From the "Irish Times" today; Business section page 4.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has arrested the Kwok brothers, directors of Sun Hung Kai Properties, whose wealth is over $15 billion, in connection with a corruption investigation.

If only we had one here.....

Not sure there is a large appettite for genuine corruption proceedings in Ireland. Remember a lot of people knew that the politicians were corrupt and kept on voting for them, i.e. the voters themselves are corrupt and voted for more corruption.
Padraic Flynn still has support, in spite of all that has happened in past week. Padraic could be shovelling dead babies into a truck and there would still be some sick people who would support him. If anyone wants to know how the Nazi's received support*, look at your neighbours.
Having said that resistance has grown, we have learned some lessons. Sometimes I think we are only slowly learning about democracy and real governance, ownership of our own nation and shaping it how WE want.
It seems we have to make the mistakes before we learn the lessons.
If culture is our societal memory, wouldn't it be great if we could get rid of the culture of families voting FF because Daddy would be angry if we didn't? Have we learned that lesson (permanently) yet?

*apologies for the Godwins law thing.

    .

It's a good point, we are certainly still learning how to govern our country but it shouldn't be an reason to excuse those who were corrupt.

They should be brought to justice.

100% agree, I don't excuse anyone, including the excusers! But where is the justice in the Tribunals? Yes we have some progress in that FF ejected them... but OTOH only after they couldn't possibly deny the corruption anymore. Will the taxman recover the monies due to him same as they do the plebs? Where are the jail sentences?
