Red red wine (and white and bubbly) - Ferry to France

    Howdy,

So my fiancée's parents are going on a trip to France soon enough, and they are planning on doing a bit of scouting for wines to bring back. Does anyone have any recommendations for good wines for a wedding at a decent price?

Thinking of red, white and prosecco for the bubbly if available. Can't remember if the French stores did much prosecco but thought I'd ask.

    Any help appreciated, cheers.

I go on holidays every year, the warehouses near the ports are the place to go. you get better deals when you buy the cartons there like the 5l stuff as they pack better. but as youre posting here, I doubt you want to have 5l cartons on the tables.

a decent chattaneuf du pap for quality.

I got a wolfblass presidential over there for 8 euro 2 years ago, theyre 13 in aldi here, 17 in tescos. might be a bit heavy for a wedding meal though.

Visit small vineyards. They will do direct deals at a better price. That's where my friends got their wine for the wedding. You can also do wine tasting while you're there and select exactly what you want.
If that's too much trouble, even supermarket wine in France is very decent and much much cheaper than here - not only is it local, it is also not taxed through the roof like we are here.
At €4 a bottle, I'm not kidding, you can get a drinkable wine, not fancy, but ok and equivalent to a selected €7-8 bottle here. If you spend a bit more, you can get a very good wine (which most people at weddings will agree is lovely, while not being connoisseurs)... Best of luck!
