I wonder is this also for contract staff like Pat Kenny and Joe Duffy. Its a step in the right direction. I might actually pay my television licence this year!

RTE has announced that it will cut top presenters' pay by a minimum of 30% and close its London office as it seeks to reduce costs by up to €25 million by the end of 2013.

Why would you paying or not paying your TV license hinge on Joe Duffys wages? :pac:

    All very positive measures:

"There will be a 25% reduction in the budget or sports rights by 2014 - with Irish sport to be a priority in future."

"The amount paid for overseas programming will be cut by at least 10% by next year."

"The announcement of a minimum 30% cut in pay for top earning presenters will apply to the top 20 best-paid staff"

RTÉ should never be seeking to outbid the private sector for foreign shows or foreign sports. To do so is a shameless disregard of their mandate, as they're wasting taxpayers' money and neglecting indigenous television producers and sports.

I don't think they are employee's of RTE. They are contracted in as private companies in their own name.

On a more serious note, I'm somewhat concerned at the mention of sports in the cuts. I'm really hoping this won't affect the international rugby.
