Engineer required for extension - recommendations?

I have learned a lot from reading through heaps of posts on the Construction & Planning forum over the past few months:
    • That I needed planning permission for my extension
    • That I should engage an architectural technician to draw up my planning application
    • That having got my planning permission, I should get working drawings for builders to quote
So thanks to all for your contributions to the forum - it's a super resource.

My current situation is that I have done all of the above, selected a builder and I would like to engage somebody (a consulting engineer?) to supervise the construction of my extension. I'd very much appreciate advice on:
    (a) What profession I need to choose - is it a consulting engineer, or some other kind of engineer?
    (b) how do I select the right person for the job?

If anyone can recommend somebody, that would be good too. Thanks!

You can engage either a structural engineer, architect or architectural technician. Check them out for recommendations and ensure they have PI insurance.

It would be helpful to know what part of the country you're in. :)

Thanks - of the above, which would you recommend?
The architectural technicial who drew my plans doesn't have PI insurance unfortunately, so he said he can't do it.

    Can your AT recommend anyone?

If not then look for an engineer.

Some of the Dublin based regulars here may be able to recommend someone.
