Please recommend a recovery drink/shake

    Hey.

I remember a couple of years ago saying I'd never use these protein shakes that my brother was using, telling him that surely natural foods would be better for him.

But I've decided to give them a go (if you guys think they will help my problem).
So after a long/hard few hours on the bike I find the rest of the day is just a right off, I can't shake that fatigued feeling away. I'm hungry all day and no matter how much I eat I never feel satisfied.
I should point out that I'm not sore or anything, physically I feel fine, it's just the tiredness. Also I feel fine on a long ride while on the bike, it's usually after I've showered and sat down for a while that this kicks in.

Is there a protein/recovery drink people would recommend please? Also, do you think this is the answer to my problem?

    Thanks a lot

There is nothing that you can get from a drink that you can't get from food. Other than water, perhaps.

My preferred "product" is a huge stack of cheese, chorizo and mayo sandwiches as soon as I get through the door.

    Also, recovery is trainable.

Nothing to do with excercise, but I used to get fatigued quite often.

I find that if I do a course of vivepotal once a year it sets me up, so maybe worth looking at for you

Slimline milk, a banana and spoon or two of Hot Chocolate, whisked. Drink as soon as you come in! Yum!

For Goodness Shakes. Available at CRC. I'm fussy about taste, and these are good.

A fruit smoothie with a scoop of whey protein - make up before you cycle and put it in the fridge IN FRONT of the cheesecake, not behind it :)

    or

chocolate milk is supposed to be good

Drink plenty when you are on the bike.

Immediately when home - some fruit, fresh orange or something

    Recovery shake
    1 scoop whey protein
    1-2 teaspoons glucose
Water (or if it was a really hard session - milk)

    After 30mins - 1 hour:
    Full meal.

    This has worked for me.

I normally have a bowl of porridge with milk and a teaspoon of sugar, and I also make up a smoothie too. I generally put orange/apple juice, a scoop of whey protein, a bananna, some frozen berries and maybe some flaxseed too.

Interesting study in which nine male "endurance-trained cyclists" were used by the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism to determine if chocolate milk is useful as a post-exercise recovery aid.

No need to read the whole thing, scroll to page 89 and read the last three lines!

Or perhaps the next line after that:

This study was supported, in part, by the Dairy and Nutrition Council, Inc.

    No agenda there then ;)
