Maybe a stupid question but does anyone know if the fuel lorries drivers strike will hit Northern Ireland as well? It's well on its way in Britain and apparently there is a bit of a chaos over there.

What are they striking about? Rising cost of fuel?

No, and before everyone goes on a rant:
voted this week to strike in protest at working conditions and changes to their pensions

Nothing to do with the cost of fuel.

They havent gone on strike. They have just voted to have a strike in the future.

They have to give 7 days notice to have a strike. Most petrol stations have a supply to last 5 days.

    Its just people being stupid.

They have decided to strike for better H&S rules for the drivers.

Apparently the UK Government made the wise decision to tell the people to stock up on fuel. Yay.

    Yeah, right.
Nah, they've just identified the busiest weekend they can find to cause the most disruption to hold the country to ransom to blackmail themselves more money.
Same reason the nurses here don't strike over the state of the healthservice, people these days only care about their own pocket.
Basically just observing the finest and most sacred union tradition, holding the country over a barrel unless they get some more in their back pocket.

There's thousands of hazchem drivers out of work who'd snap it up.

To be fair would you go on strike from your job in protest about anything other than your terms and conditions? Good to prove the Sindo wrong though - it has claimed on many ocassions that only public sector workers would risk go on strike during a recession because private sector workers would be afraid to strike in case they would lose their jobs - of course they were only referring to Irish workers, that's different!

If a strike is called, it may not hit NI. The last time there was a strike, in 2000, NI was not affected.
