Getting off in between stops

Just wondered, can you get off a train between stops and then board the next train with the same ticket?

So say if I bought a train ticket from Wicklow to Connolly, can I get off the train at Grand Canal Dock, then get on the next train to Connolly, but with the same ticket? Anyone any idea?

You are allowed to break your journey, yes.

edit- it seems that only applies on an intercity journey, but from reading this you should still be allowed to http://railusers.ie/passenger_info/ticketing.php#break_of_journey

Only problem being the trains from Wicklow don't stop in Grand Canal Dock! You'd have to get off in Pearse.

You can't leave the station though, right? As your ticket wouldn't work on the machines to let you back in?

Thats what I wondered, because of the machines?

And the train from Greystones stops at Grand Canal, or it did the last time I was on it.

Greystones is within the short hop zone so I don't think you can break the journey (unless you need to change trains).

    section 8 of this
    http://www.irishrail.ie/media/ConditionsOfTravel1.pdf
says you can break your journey, including leaving the station

    No mention of intercity only

Obviously getting off between stops isn't to be recommended, wait til the train has stopped fully before opening the door! ;)

Further down the same publication is

tickets and to the special conditions stated on the tickets or in Iarnród

    prevail.

Assuming you want to leave the station, no you can't do that.

You can of course stop your journey short.

But for an intercity journey the passenger is allowed a break in their journey which will entitle them to leave the station and get lunch etc and then continue on the next scheduled service or the first train the next morning if the train they disembark is the last service of the day.

An intercity journey is any journey which starts outside the suburban areas e.g. Short Hop zone in Dublin or between Cobh and Cork or a journey which starts within a suburban area to any destination beyond it so Wicklow to any station within the short hop zone is classed as an intercity journey.

Yes, Wicklow town, but I believe the OP is talking about county Wicklow, specifically Greystones.

stops on that line are too close together to have time to get off with anyone, unless she is a complete slut

The train would be moving between stops. I certainly wouldn't advise it...

Of course, at a station located between the origin and destination listed on the ticket, it's all right to disembark.
