    Hi,
Im looking to create a spanish style wrap/sandwich for a special event.
(Kind of idea would be a bacon and cabbage wrap if it were irish say)
Food that would make you immediately think spain.

    Any ideas?
    Chorizo definitley, but what else?
    Salads, sauces, hams, meats etc.

Would serranno ham be a bit too chewy?

    typical spanish foods
grilled piquillo peppers (usually find them in a jar here - if not, just grill some sweet red pepper and let cool)
tuna - good quality, ortiz is a good brand here
usual salad leaves - they're quite fond of the small heads of lettuce - only a few inches high, can serve one person
spanish cheese- manchego is the obvious, but any hard goat/sheep cheese...usually they have a mix of both milks....one of my favourites is Idiazabal which might be hard to get.

they also like soft goats cheese, especially grilled with carmelised onion on top.

typical sandwich here really is just tortilla on bread, or jamon on bread either alone, with cheese, or with crushed tomatoes (pan con tomate), a drizzle of olive oil and sprinkle of salt.

another favourite is lacon a la gallega - basically thick cuts of boiled ham (think xmas ham) drizzled in oil and smoked/sweet paprika.

Dressings would just be olive oil, balsamic.

A real 'spanish' sandwich would probably be tortilla with a grilled green pepper on top....chorizo slices with crushed tomato mixed with a little oil....calamari with a little mayo/garlic sauce on bread is also popular. prawns in marie rose sauce and lettuce...

hope it helps - tbh they dont really do sandwiches here - mostly just plain stuff, sorry I couldnt' be more help

    Thats perfect, thanks a million.

Im not really looking to make something the spanish eat, just something appetising filled with spanish things.

Plenty of ingredients to work with there thanks again.

oh and serrano ham would be fine - maybe chop it a little before putting it in...I like serrano ham, goats cheese and tomatoe again wtih a little oil or honey.

oh and if ur looking to impress - have a google for 'pinxto's...basically slice off a little round of french baguette and top it with stuff.....grilled minute steak and brie is quite popular, again the goats cheese and carmelised onion, smoked salmon wrapped around a filling of crab/cream cheese (use crab sticks shredded, mix with a little cheese, lemon juice, pepper and roll it up with salmon and chill for a few mins).

they're much more elaborate with pinxto's...
