There has been rumours that gross vehicle weight on HGV 6-axle trucks is to increase to 46 tonnes max .
Does anyone have confirmation of this going ahead ?

I found something on it here :
    http://www.transport.ie/upload/general/13021-VEHICLE_WEIGHTS_SUMMARY_REPORT-0.DOC
In summary, the goal is to move towards a minimum 4 tonne differential between the 5 axle (2+3) 42 tonne and 6 axle 44 tonne articulated vehicles to encourage uptake of the 6 axle vehicle. To do this requires either eliminating the derogation and re-creating the 40/44 tonne allowances or investigating the full impact of moving to a 42/46 tonne allowance. Indeed a 40/46 tonne differential could materialise. The 6 axle 46 tonne articulated vehicle is safer, more environmentally friendly and road friendly but requires a detailed structural assessment to satisfy the bridge owners, in particular the NRA, of its overall affect.
