As the title reads, I cracked the face of my titleist 910 driver. Only have it about 18 months. Anyone else had this problem?

18 months is very quick to crack the face, if it was me I'd bring it back to where I bought it. Its probably out of warranty but I'm sure they'd sort you out...

Ah yeah there is no bother their. Brought it in to them today and they gave me a replacement while I'm waiting on the new one. So fair play to Birr golf shop for that.
Just wondered if this had happened to anyone else. As they told me in the shop they are really making these on the limits now. I suppose that's what your going to get with these super thin faces.

103 mph. Prov1. Soft ball average enough swing speed.

sounds like there was actually a manufactuing fault with it then, i wouldn't suspect this would be happening regurlarly to tour players etc.

Range balls are the cause of many cracked driver heads. Off centre hits, tops, shots all over the face even pure hits will have a negative effects on the face of any modern driver and even modern 3 woods.

    Update.
Driver came back from titleist weeks and weeks ago saying that there is no crack just a scratch. So I have no reason to doubt them however I have explained to the golf shop that I look after my clubs well and have noticed a dip in performance that coincides with the discovery of the scratch/crack and that this mark only occurred through normal use it was designed for. It is not good enough imo for this happen as its still the current model and obviously not up to the job. I'm not happy with the performance and cannot sell on as nobody would buy this off me. As the driver is more than a year old I don't think the shop are responsible but would of though titleist would stand over this. They have agreed to swap mine for an ex demo with same SPEC which I happily agreed but this was weeks ago and still not got it. Tomorrow is the presidents prize and will now be playing with the replacement driver that not correct spec that the shop lent me.
Your thoughs/ advice welcome. I'm thinking about declining there offer now and getting on to titleist directly and telling them about my experience .

Stick the driver, head first into a bucket of water, if bubble appear, you gotta cracked head if not, a scratch like they said, will not have any impact on performance. PM if you want an independent to look at it.

    Cherrs for that suggestion.
The old driver is in the shop. I know that golf and how your hitting a club is a very subjective thing but the shop did give me an identically speced head for a while I had it for a few days and hitting the ball just like I did with the old one pre mark. So where I'm coming from is you can call it a scratch or crack or a mark but it has affected the performance. And what are your thoughts on the fact that the club has a mark on the face of it in first place through normal play in which it was intended for. Like I say I can sell this club now.

Yeah will do. I took a pic of it before I gave it into the shop will see if I still have it and post it up so you can see what I'm talking about. Don't get me wrong its not the biggest crack in the world Id call it a hair line crack but its enough to affect performance.

is there a funny noise off it when you strike the ball or does it sound the same?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 535 ✭✭✭golfnut1

Can't say I noticed any change in sound but the 910 isn't the loudest anyway. Just noticed a lack of feel with the compression of the ball and loss of distance

Just realised, this is on going for over 2 months now and no resolution??
Way too long! Post get the club back off them hold on to the demo and tell them you gonna get it checked out independently!

Am I right in thinking that given its over a year old my fight is really with titleist and not the shop? I think I need to be talking to titleist directly. If the rep agreed to change it even if is was for a demo he should have done this in s timely fashion and not drag the arse out of it.

I'm a little sceptical here to be honest. The Rep wouldn't tell the shop to give you a Demo, that call is made by the Shop, as its their demo that they are going to give you. The rep would decide to replace it all together, or not at all. In over 20 years in golf retail I have never heard of this. And the time scale is ridiculous.

If the sound hasn't changed to me it sounds like there's no crack.

is ther was a crack there would be a dull sound.

are you sure you're just not hitting it off centre or the settings/shaft are correct for you?

have you tried hitting another one with similar shaft/settings?

I have yes I got a same spec head and put you old shaft in and bingo. Back to exactly what a wanted. Great feel at impact and distance back to norm.

Got on to titleist UK and then the rep rang me to tell me that ill have a brand new 910 d3 by about the 22nd of this month. Seemingly they are out of stock for that head until then!
I'll wait and see how this plays out as I thought this was sorted 2 months ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 535 ✭✭✭golfnut1
