    Have a b5 a4 with a 02 b6 engine. Engine code AZL. Which oil should I use?

    Some suggested 5w30 others 10w30.

Which is the best for the job?

    Cheers

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

That engine is ancient, it has been around for decades. 10W40 semi-synth most likely will be more than enough. I doubt it needs synthetic oil

Don't take my word for it though, I'm no expert.

5w30 long life oil to VW spec 504.00 is what is recommended for your engine.

So 5w30 it is then...? For definite

100% definite. Not just any 5W30 either, it must be the long life oil to the correct 504.00 spec. Any brand will do once it meets the spec but to take Castrol as an example, you need to use the Edge 5W30 rather than the Magnatec 5W30.

Could you give me examples of other oils that would be compatible? Brand and type please George? Will be picking up oil and service parts on Monday.

Would something happen if you use 10w40?
Because I have the same engine in my car and a month ago i got it serviced with 10w 40 semi sintech.

I reckon it's best to use THIS oil as suggested. Gonna pick some up Monday, that seems to be the oil George is on about. Is this the cheapest around for this oil?

How many litres would I need for an oil change George? Cheers

These engines take 3.7 litres. There are cheaper sources for the Castrol Edge. Where are you located?
