Sky Planning Permission in Cork City

    Hey All

I'm going to be moving into an Apartment on Washington Street, Cork in the next two weeks. I get UPC at my current place but they cant transfer the account as the new apartment isnt cabelled. All they can offer is their MMDS service which only includes TV with no plus services or broadband

I was considering Sky as they seem to be the best for paid TV in Ireland. However I came across a pdf here: http://www.corkcity.ie/services/planningdevelopment/planningapplications/makinganapplication/howdoimakeaplanningapplication/planningforms/satellite_text.pdf stating that an apartment needs planning permission for a satellite to be erected.

Is there any way around this (i.e. is it enforced?) or do I have to get Planning Permission for the dish, as it seems not to be worth the bother.

Theres a side of the building facing South Main Street where they are already Sky dishes erected down the street. I assumed that Cork City Council wouldn't have an issue with the look seeing that theres dishes already in place on the street.

there is a building approach to this afaik, if enough people in a building use them, sky will hook up everyone to one communal dish

are there other dishes on the building?

I'd give sky a ring and ask if avaiable

there are many dishes, on aprtments and houses contravening PP

it really depends how active the CC are in tackling this or how likely there is to be complaints etc.

I spoke to someone in the planning Dept there recently who said they generally ignore the issue unless someone such as a neighbour, goes to the trouble of actually writing to the planning office to complain about the dishes. The person said that while they personally would like to enforce the rule, as is, it is not policy to do so.
